Is the Sony a6400 the Best Travel Camera in 2019?

2 min

The Sony a6400 was announced back in January and is already flying of the shelves and shaping up to be one of the best choices for travel cameras this year.

Sony have packed so much technology into the new a6400 that it even out classes the Sony a6500 that sits above it in many areas, leaving a6500 owners pondering whether to sell their a6500’s and purchase the a6400 instead.

Here are 8 reasons why the Sony a6400 makes for a really great travel camera in 2019:

1. It’s Size

A travel camera should be light in weight and compact in size. The a6400 certainly ticks this box since it weighs just 403g with the battery and SD Card inserted and measures only 120.0mm (w) x 66.9mm (h) x 59.7mm (d). If you mount a small lens like the Sony E 35mm F1.8 then you can easily slip this camera into a jacket pocket and you will barely know that it’s there.

2. Eye Autofocus

The eye autofocus system in the a6400 locks on to your subjects eye and keeps tracking it so long as you have the shutter button pressed. You can choose which eye you want the focus to lock on or let the camera decide for you. When shooting portraits or people on your travels it’s always important to get the eyes in focus, other camera systems without Eye AF often lock the focus on the forehead or eyebrows which can easily ruin your travel photos.

3. Large Choice of Lenses and Accessories

Photographers who do decide to buy the new Sony a6400 will also have a very large choice of lenses and accessories to choose from. With well over 100 Sony E-mount lenses and multiple accessories like wrist straps, microphones, cases, tripods and cages, you can be sure that you’ll have the right gear no matter where your travels take you. One of the top travel lenses for the a6400 is the Sony E 18-135mm lens. It covers a very useful focal range and is also extremely sharp and light in weight too darmowa kasa za rejestrację bez depozytu.

4. Real-time Tracking is Class Leading

The new real-time tracking system in the a6400 is more advanced than ever before. Sony has managed to simplify the autofocus system and you can now track you subject in both stills and video modes with a simple touch of the screen. If you find that your shots are often out of focus then this will no longer be the case the with a6400. You can learn more about how the new real-time tracking works over at DPReview.

5. Selfie Screen

The selfie or flippy screen as it’s often called lets you flip the rear LCD so that it’s facing towards the front of the camera. This makes it really easy to take selfies or if you are into Vlogging will help to make sure that you stay within the frame.

6. Animal Eye AF

In summer of this year the a6400 will receive a firmware update that enables Animal Eye Autofocus. So if you love photographing wildlife or your pet dog or cat, the Animal Eye AF will make sure that the eyes are always in focus. This is something that no other camera system offers today.

7. Interval Shooting

If you enjoy shooting time-lapses of all the incredible locations that you travel to then you’ll be glad to hear that the Sony a6400 now also includes an interval shooting function built into the camera. This lets you record a serious of images over a period of time, which you can then playback in camera. To create a movie for YouTube you will need to use Sony’s free Imaging Edge and PlayMemories software.

8. 4k Video

If you want to record video on your travels, then you’ll be glad to know that the a6400 supports 4k video and there is no 30-minute recording limit either. There’s also support for picture profiles that include: S-Log 2 and 3, PP1-PP10, Black level, and HLG support that results in better-looking movies. Touch tracking is also now available in video mode to make it easier than ever to keep the focus on your subject.
