Threat to basic Human Rights: 2 Extreme Cases of Injustice in the Middle East

2 min

“The Children of Adam are limbs of one another, created from a single substance. When one limb suffers misfortune, the others cannot be at rest. You who do not suffer the pain of others do not deserve to be called human.”, the conceptions of meaning of the Middle Eastern Persian poet Saadi’s poetry indicates that the human rights and their serving are not foreign ideas to local cultures and traditions of the Middle East. But certain ruling elites like Turkey and Qatar seem to be in the pursuit of seeking power in geopolitics.

In such regions, the origins of violations of human rights is a major existing issue. As observed, there is no enduring and accurate concept of people’s power in the Middle East. There are numerous cases of injustice touching the extreme boundaries of basic human right violations which are being dealt with through different platforms.

1. Turkey, the Case of Sinem Tezyapar

This is a case of its own kind where a muslim woman is accused of being a spy of Israel because she used her freedom of speech and made a choice to promote peace despite the Muslim world’s denial to have any extensive links to Israel, she spoke in the favor of Israel which turned against her in all the worst possible ways.  Sinem Tezyapar had been an exec producer on Turkish TV. She was a columnist on politics and religion, and a social peace activist. She wrote and Op-Ed in which she condemned Arabs for promoting hate for Jews by stating that Muslim leaders mould  the concepts of the Hadith (saying of Prophet Muhammad) and the scripture (Al Quran) according to their interests to manipulate people into thinking that Israel is the cause of all the failures and obstacles muslims are facing. She mentioned the issue thrice before getting arrested for it. Her prosecution had begun in Istanbul this past week. She is facing the possibility of living the rest of her life in prison ( 867 years, to be specific). Sinem Tezyapar is suspected of being an Israeli agent imprisoned for her convictions and truthful speech. The case is based on her beliefs and a pure injustice for any one who has eyes can see because it is wrong on every level. The world powers should get directed to the issue and do the morally correct thing in her matter.

2. Qatar, for Mathew and Grace

Matthew and Grace Huang are american citizens who shifted to Qatar in 2012 with their children, Gloria, Josiah, and Emmanuel. In order to prepare for the 2022 World Cup, Matthew was relocated by an American company that had gained a contract to undertake development projects for the Qatari Government. Their youngest but adopted daughter from Ghana, Gloria was sick since childhood. The health issues continued even in her adult years and she lost her life to severe illness in 2013. But in Qatar, Matthew and Grace were suspected as  guilty of murder of Gloria. Institution of justice falsely claimed that the parents adopted Gloria to conduct psychological experiments on her, starve her to death, extract her body parts and sell them to the underground market.

Till date, They have spent 11 months in prison awaiting court hearing. They confronted a potential death penalty. Both have been falsely sentenced to three years in jail for murder both had not committed. One of the most surprising aspects of the situation of the Huang’s is that the courts who convicted them did not say that they were guilty of the charges. The couple is still in Jail while their kids are living without their parents for years now with no signs of liberty.
