The cost of going to the movies has skyrocketed. In general, people spend over $1,000 on entertainment of some form, and movie tickets can easily reach $10 or more per person.

But nothing beats staying home for a good old-fashion movie night. If you love watching movies, here are a few tips to throw a movie night that’s red-carpet worthy.

1. Which Movie?

When you’re deciding on how to host a movie night, one of the first things to do is select which movie you want to watch.

A western? Drama? Comedy? Is there a new release that has everyone talking? Who do you plan to invite? Girls only? Guys only? Family movie night?

All of these questions will help you choose which movie is right for movie night.

Whatever it is, make sure you understand your audience or take a vote.

2. Food, Food, Food

A movie night isn’t complete without a yummy array of snacks!

The great thing about a movie night at home is that anything goes when it comes to snacks! While you can settle for the movie-staple food, popcorn, you could go all out and make food that’s relevant to your movie.

Pinterest or a quick Google search will likely pull up plenty of movie-themed foods that are easy to make and fun to eat.

3. Get Comfy

Theatres have gone a long way to make sure you stay comfortable when you watch a movie. From reclining chairs and heated seats, it’s almost enough to make you want to stay for another movie!

But it can be just as comfortable, if not more, in your own home. Pull out all the stops! Grab pillows, blankets, build a fort, you name it! Drag out the bean bag chairs or special seating just for the occasion.

However, you arrange your seating, make sure everyone can view the movie well, and they are all comfortable.

4. Indoors or Outdoors?

Another possibility when hosting a movie night is to decide to have it outdoors.

Having it outdoors sets a certain ambiance, almost like a drive-in. You may have to obtain permits and permission if you go this route. But it can be a fun and memorable experience to watch theater movies at home.

Summertime is the perfect time to host an outdoor movie night after the sun goes down. You could even make a day out of it, making the movie the finishing touch.

5. Other Activities

A movie night with just a movie is completely fine, but would you want to include other activities like games or trivia? These could be movie-related or not, it’s totally up to you!

Even if you don’t include other activities in the movie night, trying leaving room for conversation about the movie. Maybe have some discussion topics ready or allow everyone to share what they liked or didn’t like about the movie.

Hosting A Movie Night

When you’re hosting a movie night, you’re not just watching a movie, you’re making memories with your friends and family. Take some time to plan and plan a great one!
