Career Ups and Downs

Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Jaheim grew up in the city’s now-defunct Memorial Parkway Homes public housing project. He lost his father in 1981, at the age of just three years. But he experienced another tragedy. His mother died. After her death, he recorded a tape and sent it to Divine Mill Records. That led to a deal and his first two singles, Could It Be and Lil Nigga Aint Mine. He received good reactions to the singles on BET video shows.

In 2001, he released one of his best albums, Ghetto Love. The album contains two of his best songs, Fabulous and Anything. Both peaked in the Top 40 Chart in the US.

In 2006, he released the album Ghetto Classics. It is his first number one album and it led to a contract with Atlantic Records. Under the new label, Jaheim released his fourth album, The Makings of a Man in 2007.

In 2009, he released the single Ain’t Leavin Without You. It served as the lead single of the 2010 album, Another Round.

He took a short hiatus from music. But in 2013, Jaheim returned with the new single, Age Ain’t a Factor. In 2014, the rapper restarted his own label Julie’s Dream Music Group. He started this label early in 1997, restarted it in 2002, and then again in 2014. Following the launch of his label, he signed a new deal with BMG Records in February 2015.
