The world is up against challenging times in one way or another with this COVID-19 pandemic but when The Peel Connection in Beverly Hills founder Nidah Barber-Raymond had her chemical peel operation closed with two children under six years old at home, her business took an unexpected turn.

Initially the impact was severe to her business. This mompreneur was watching the manic news coverage almost 24:7 of the pandemic, how it happened, why and what was going on with the many people already sick. Overwhelmed and riddled with anxiety sitting in her living room was overwhelmed and depressed sitting on her couch and, like the rest of the world was wondering how this was all happening. An new, unknown pathogen originating from Wuhan, China and our government’s chaotic response to it. Initially putting out statements that there was nothing to fear about it to being locked down through shelter in place for an indefinite period of time.

Then, she said she thought that there was opportunity in the midst of it all if she just looked around for it. “I felt guilty for thinking this during a time when so many people were in crisis.” Nidah admitted.

For over 12 years as an aesthetician Nidah had been performing chemical peels. “I realized a lot of my clients were quarantined at home and in desperate need of self-care. That’s when it dawned on me I needed to change my business model and started shipping at home peels. Customers loved it because the strength of the peels was in their control by how many layers they put on so it was safe for them.”

On top of it all, because everyone was at home during this quarantine, her return on investment on social media ads also assisted in her business and brand recognition.

Her new business strategy consumed her as she was still trying to maintain balance at home with her family life. Instead of being in panic mode when most people were she was productive more than she has ever been in her life.

She implemented an increase in production with her chemist and had her bottling, labels and packaging finished in only two weeks. She also had an e-commerce platform added to her site set up with liability measures in place.

“Success to me isn’t about how wealthy you are. It’s about giving your best to make a situation better during trying times.” Nidah says she is extremely grateful for everything, now, more than ever.
