When DESUAR Spa opened its doors in 2010, it was committed to the wellness and self care aspect of the spa industry. That dream has not changed since the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on local businesses everywhere. In fact, despite major setbacks caused by the virus, it has given the business an opportunity to step up for its customers more than ever before.

Owner Deisy Suarez-Giles said the beauty and wellness arena has always been a passion of hers, ever since she was a child living in the Dominican Republic. She started her professional career inNew York City, working as a makeup artist; she still had a dream of one day working in the beauty industry.

“I didn’t necessarily want to be a Massage Therapist orEsthetician, but I definitely knew my passion was to be in the wellness or self-carebusiness,” Deisy said. Making the transition from a makeup artist to an entrepreneur was, she said, “scary and a little nerve-wracking,” but it made her feel like “I was getting my life back on track.”I was slowly creating my dream wellness business without realizing it was materializing.

“Once I put my head down and got into it, it was like being in school where you learn new things and you have to do research,” she said. “So I had to find a team, find a location, gather a staff, and it was a lot. But it didn’t really feel like work.” It was fun and it came natural to me. It was, however, a slow process.

“Pretty much all of 2010 was spent doing all of that. It took a month or two just to really get my thoughts together, and a couple more months looking for a locationI took the leap faith and rented a multi-use unit to be able to live and work from home.Once the space was set up, it was time to build a business. I slowly began to build a clientele, that told their friends and family, and my business was growing too big to be run from home.

Since then, Deisy said the business has “definitely evolved over time” as she became more skilled and able to offer more services, hire and train staff.”Iwanted to be fully equipped and prepared to satisfy everybody who walks through our doors,” Deisy said. “Our first desire is to provide superior guest services, and while we are doing that, we want to exceed expectations in a healthier manner, great skin, soothing body, beauty & body care and awesome massage therapy.”

Deisy, now owns 2 high end spas, in Silverlake& DTLA, two of the trendiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Despite Covid-19 she has still been able to push through, and is expanding her business amid the pandemic.

With her entrepreneurial spirit, love for wellness & self-care and emphasis on education, it is no surprise that Deisy has been featured in Forbes, LA Magazine, Zoe Report, Voyage LA, Spa Insider, Well and Away, DTLA Weekly, DTLA Life, Coast to Coast, Style & Society, and MTV. She has also worked with many Hollywood celebrities and sports figures. Deisy aims to bring a change in the wellness and spa industry with her wide range of services and products.
