Wedding season has officially begun, and calendars are about to be filled with nuptials and celebrations, and they might look a lot different to what we’re used to, but there are still going to be some wonderful and memorable experiences that will come out of this time. Whether you’re the couple getting married, a bridesmaid and groomsman or a guest attending, what can you expect from a wedding in 2021? How has the last year shaped how couples want to celebrate their love?

On the heels of 2020, many things have changed, and until you actually go to a wedding, it might feel like things are still the same. Events like weddings are subject to the behaviors and experiences of human beings, so they’re going to reflect what we care about and what we want. Many trends are coming out of the wedding industry, from digital innovations, to food and the general logistics of the day. The wedding industry is incredibly resilient and forward-thinking, and some of the trends are a direct result of an intentional and necessary pivot. What about wedding receptions in particular, how have they changed, and what are the biggest trends we’re seeing right now?

Here are the top wedding reception trends and interesting things that are happening right now.

Flexibility & Adaptation

Many wedding venues have adapted their service offerings very well to this new normal, and they are extremely accommodating and flexible to meeting the new needs of clients. Venues that offer wedding receptions are tailoring extremely personal experiences for couples and their guests, so they can have a good time, even with the changes in how events are planned and executed.

For example, venues would be open to having a wedding ceremony and reception during the week to make it easier to have smaller numbers. Venues are also willing to create seating arrangements and plans that put people at ease. That’s because they understand the amount of stress that goes into planning your big day, even before everything that’s happening in the world, so they aim to make the process as calm as possible.

Micro-wedding Receptions

In line with all the changes in the world over the last year, weddings have been scaled way down, with smaller guest lists and more intimate settings. This has given rise to what are now known as microweddings, meant to cater to a guest list of 50 guests or less. Smaller weddings allow for more control of the numbers, and they can give couples the chance to go all out for their guests because the money can be stretched further. Smaller weddings don’t have to be a consolation prize or a lesser alternative to a bigger affair – they can be enjoyable, unique and memorable.

LiveStreaming

Technology has become a handy friend to the wedding industry, and it’s set to become more popular. When many couples found out that their guests weren’t able to travel to the event, live streaming became the perfect solution for them to still share their big day with loved ones. Platforms like Zoom make it really easy for couples to livestream their weddings to people all over the world.

With a few cameras, a solid internet connection, and a lot of creativity, you can have a smooth stream and not worry about things like glitches and challenges. Streaming has become so popular that planners and venues are also making sure they have the facilities for it. If you want to have a smaller wedding, streaming is a way to make sure other people can also be a part of the special day. A live stream doesn’t also have to cost a lot of money. If you do your research, you can create a high tech event without spending thousands.

DIY

In the last year, people have gotten a lot more creative, and some of this creativity is being applied to their big day. Whether as a cost-saving measure or just a way to make their big day feel more personal, brides and grooms are doing a lot of the work themselves. From creating centerpieces and place cards, to photobooths and guest favors, people are employing the power of Pinterest to create items that make their nuptials even more authentic and different.

Weddings are an interesting aspect of the human experience, they are important and special. In this wedding season, we’re going to see a ton of exciting developments and changes. Do these trends represent a permanent shift or just a temporary change? It will be intriguing to find out.
