Whether you’re traveling to Egypt on business or vacation, there are plenty of things to do in the country that make it worth spending your time there. Of course, you could spend all your time in the city of Cairo, one of the most populous cities in the world and full of historical sites, but if you want to get away from it all, travel around more and take in more culture, natures, and beauty, check out these 10 things to do during an Egypt Trip. There are plenty more than just these 10 things to do in Egypt; this list just gives you ten highlights of the country’s top tourist attractions that are sure to make your trip unforgettable!
1) Visit the Pyramids
An Egypt Trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of its most famous attractions: The Pyramids. Giza’s Great Pyramid of Cheops (also known as Khufu or Kheops) and the smaller pyramids of Khafre and Menkaura, all remain almost perfectly intact thousands of years after their construction. Still today, all three are considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. This will give you an up-close look at these stunning structures that have stood for over 4,000 years. It will also give you insight into how people lived back then—and it might even teach you something about yourself!
2) View amazing wildlife
The Nile River is an animal lover’s paradise. If you have time, take a side trip to Cairo or Giza and visit either of these two places: Maadi Natural Park or The Gezira Club. Both offer safari tours that give you close-up looks at Egyptian wildlife, including ostriches, gazelles, and baboons. If you want to save some money, just step out of your hotel room at night and watch over 400 species of local insects flutter by.
3) Climb a Mountain
Mount Sinai, also known as Mount Horeb, is one of two mountains (the other being Mount Catherine) that form a ridge across west-central Sinai. The biblical Mount Sinai/Horeb is mentioned many times in Scripture and was considered by certain Jews and Christians to be holy due to its association with events that occurred during Moses’ 40 days of fasting and 40 nights of praying upon it. To view some of its peaks, use your binoculars or telescope; you can see them from far away. If you want to climb up to it, bring lots of water—you will need at least three liters per person.
4) Relax by the pool
Relax on a deck chair by the pool, and soak up those rays. Whether you’re staying at a five-star resort or a more modest hotel with pools, it’s important to unwind as much as you can while traveling. Plus, swimming is one of the best ways to work off some of that excess energy! The Red Sea is known for its warm waters and excellent snorkeling spots. On top of that, many resorts offer diving lessons for beginners; if you don’t have your equipment, don’t worry – most places will rent it out to you.
5) Go shopping in modern Cairo
Cairo is a bustling and bustling city with every store imaginable. Egyptian textiles, Egyptian spices, and traditional wares are all over, but there’s more than that here. Sure enough to find mobile devices and banks, but also fake eyeglasses, knock-off designer handbags, and beautiful art for sale. Cairo has something for everyone and any budget. So don’t miss a trip through one of Egypt’s most vibrant cities
6) Hire a private boat
The waters around Giza are some of Cairo’s most beautiful. A private boat can take you on a day trip to see some of its many islands, ancient ruins, and charming villages. Be aware that there is almost no garbage collection or police presence on these islands so expect to see litter and raw sewage everywhere. If you have some money to spare, hiring a private boat is one of my favorite ways to enjoy a relaxing day out in Egypt.
7) Experience nightlife
For a lot of tourists, it’s easy to get sucked into doing nothing more than lounging on a beach and drinking beer during their vacation. But if you want your trip to be memorable, getting out and experiencing something new is essential. One thing you don’t want to miss is an evening at one of Cairo’s bars or nightclubs, where you can hear live music or dance alongside locals until late at night. If you’re traveling with friends, make sure you also hit up some local restaurants—the food will likely be cheaper than what you’d find in Europe or North America, but it will still be delicious.
8) Ride a camel across the desert
Camels are one of Egypt’s most iconic symbols, but chances are you’ve never ridden one before—and you should. Most trips will have a scheduled time for camel riding, but if your trip doesn’t (or if you’re already a pro) there are plenty of other spots to hop on board, including Dahab and Aswan. Almost any large tourist town along the Nile River has stables with camels waiting to carry you through their local landscapes. Be sure to take lots of pictures! Take a ride in an old-school horse-drawn carriage
9) Admire ancient Egyptian temples
Wherever you travel within Egypt, make sure you have time (and money) set aside for these ancient attractions. If you’re interested in seeing more ruins, Luxor has plenty to offer—the most impressive being Karnak Temple. This complex features an expansive network of buildings from different eras that surround a temple that dates back more than 3,000 years. It’s hard not to be awed by such massive feats of architecture.
10) Have lunch by the sea
Sail away from Alexandria and head for Marsa Matrouh for lunch by the Mediterranean. For those who have never had an Egypt trip, having lunch on a yacht on Marsa Matrouh is about as close as you can get to an Egyptian beach holiday without any of that pesky sand getting into your lunch. The restaurant is located just offshore, so you’ll be able to see all sorts of sea life swimming around your feet while you dine al fresco.
Final thought
There’s an almost endless number of things to do on Egypt trip, with so many different sights to see and experiences to have, and these are just ten highlights of the country’s top tourist attractions that are sure to make your trip unforgettable.
