Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It is one of the only times in your life when everything revolves around you (and your spouse). You want to make sure you look your best for the ceremony and reception.

Many guys have never dressed up for a formal occasion, so they have no idea what to wear.  There’s no need to worry! This guide on what to wear on your wedding day has you covered.

Dress Shirt

For the groom and groomsmen, dress shirts are essential. The groom can wear his with a tie, or he could choose to go without one (and it’s fine if he does). Some colors are more popular than others for wedding attire: white, light blue, and pink are some of the most popular colors for this special day.

One thing to consider is that white will never go out of style, and will always looks good regardless of trends.

Also, be sure to iron the shirt. It may seem obvious, but when a thousand other things are going on, small details like ironing a shirt can get overlooked.

Pants

While you may be ready to just go to the mall and find a pair of pants that fit decently, we recommend that you visit a tailor and have your pants hemmed. As a result, they will sit at the appropriate length and won’t bunch up when walking or sitting.

A tailor can also take in any baggy areas around the thighs or backside. It is best to be fitted by a professional. However, there are plenty of guides online that can help you determine how much fabric to remove from various areas to keep the fit as close to perfect as possible.

Finally, don’t wear tight pants! Keep in mind that even if they are “skinny,” they might not feel comfortable after an 8-hour ceremony and reception. No one wants to feel uncomfortable after working so hard to look their best!

Suits

The classic white shirt goes perfectly with a navy or black suit. If you have an office job and wear suits often, then it is possible to wear one of those suits. If your job is more casual or even you just don’t wear suits often enough to justify buying one, consider renting one instead of buying one outright. It can be hard on your budget to spend hundreds of dollars on something that may only get worn once every few years.

It’s no longer a norm to wear cufflinks and pocket squares, although there’s nothing wrong with wearing them if you want. In fact, cufflinks can be an excellent way to express your personality. Star Wars or Marvel themed cufflinks can be discreet and fun.

Socks

Socks are one of the areas where personality can be displayed. Since they aren’t visible while standing, a recent trend has started where the groom and groomsmen will get socks that either have a fun theme or have a crazy design. Just make sure your significant other is okay with it.

If you decide against this fun idea and want to stay formal, make sure the socks match well with the rest of the suit. Black socks are a safe option regardless of the rest of the outfit.

Shoes

The dress shoe should match the suit you’ve chosen (or vice versa). Typically, oxfords and brogues look more polished than loafers, with brogues being slightly more formal due to their pointed tips; however, both styles are appropriate for weddings.

You may want to consider wearing two types of shoes: one for the ceremony and pictures, and one for the reception and the rest of the night. On your wedding day/night, you may be standing for six or more hours without getting a chance to sit down. Dressing in really fancy dress shoes the whole time may cause sore feet, blisters, and other problems you don’t want to deal with later.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this guide will assist you in finding the perfect wedding attire for your special day. Remember that your wedding day is all about you and your spouse, so find what works best for you both.
