Cross platform is a game changer for many. It means you can play with your friends no matter what device they’re on. Unfortunately Path of Exile doesn’t fully support this yet. Let’s dive into what’s happening now, what’s coming in the future and why things are the way they are.

What is Cross Platform Gaming?

Imagine you have a PS and your best friend has an Xbox. Without cross platform play you’re stuck playing separately. But with it those barriers disappear and you can both play together in the same game on your respective consoles. It’s all about freedom—play where you want, with who you want, without limits.

PoE Quick Look

If you like action RPGs Path of Exile (or PoE as we call it) is probably on your list. It’s a dark, gritty, loot driven game that’s a favorite among Diablo fans. Since it’s release PoE has attracted players on PC, PS, Xbox and even Mac. It’s free to play with loads of customization and deep gameplay that keeps people coming back for more.

Path of Exile Cross Platform

Here’s the deal: Path of Exile is not cross platform. Mac and PC players can play together but if you’re on a console you’re limited to playing with others on the same console. So if you’re on PS you can’t play with your friend who’s on Xbox and vice versa. It’s a bit restrictive but that’s just the way it is right now.

Path of Exile 2: Bringing Crossplay

Good news! With Path of Exile 2 coming later in 2024 (we hope) the developers Grinding Gear Games have hinted at more cross platform support. So full crossplay might finally become a reality and we can play together across all platforms. We still have to wait for the official word but it looks good!

Why isn’t Path of Exile fully cross platform yet?

You might be thinking “why don’t they just make it happen?” The reality is it’s complicated. Each gaming platform has its own rules, network systems and sometimes exclusive agreements. Plus technical challenges. Different servers, software coding and even business decisions all play a part in making crossplay a hard feature to implement.

Why Cross Platform Play would be good for PoE players

Imagine being able to play with friends in dungeons no matter where they’re playing. Crossplay makes that possible, builds stronger gaming communities and keeps the game alive and active. Plus it gives you more flexibility—switch from your console to your PC? No problem! Your progress follows you and that’s something many players would love to see in the future.

Conclusion: What’s next for PoE?

For now Path of Exile isn’t cross platform but there’s hope. With Path of Exile 2 coming soon we might finally get the cross platform experience we’ve been asking for. Keep an eye out for future updates from Grinding Gear Games and maybe you’ll be playing with all your friends no matter where they play soon.

Cheers!
