If video games were better, and a carton of Spirits wasn’t so expensive I’d probably relapse, buy a pack and smoke them in the igloo I haven’t made yet, with the guy from upstairs (not like, sky upstairs) who tries to hack wifi with a Macbook. Why? Because this is the future and I’m pretty afraid of what might happen if I see one more new product disguised as revolutionary but turning out to be painfully..well, not at all “new”.  Everything from music and movies to the way people  ‘smash’ is all old and worn out.  You’re just under the impression that a little bit of this here and there is fresh, it’s depressing I know.  So what’s this about?  The Ouya,  the Oculus,  the not-so-mundane advances in hardware that are actually worth going over once or twice and getting excited about.

Let’s do some math,  you buy two new games for either Xbox or PS3 and you will have paid more than it costs to buy an Ouya game “console”.  Why the quotations?  Well some people don’t think it’s a console in fact most people believe it’s nothing more than a glorified android device.  Maybe,  but as opposed to what else like it?  As in a phone is a phone and the Ouya is an Ouya and there isn’t anything else exactly like it that functions the way it’s expected to so why the comparison I figure.  You might say the key aspects are borrowed and that may be true but what isn’t?  What makes it so unique is that it’s innovative.  It’s actually expanding on something that already exists, not regurgitating the same old same ol’ with some with more gloss and a woopty-doo.  For that reason alone I don’t think it will fail.  Unless it really does turn out to be a scam which would suck pretty bad.

Kinect sucks,  Wii-motes suck too.  That playstation thing is awkward.  So what else is there?  Well you know there’s this virtual reality thing majiig coming out that’s supposed to be pretty cool eventually.  I’m not going to sit here and tell you why it’s interesting because you should know this but in case you don’t:

The Oculus Rift is an upcoming high field of view (FOV), low-latency, consumer-priced virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD)

The Oculus Rift Kickstarter campaign seeks to get the initial Oculus Rift HMD into the hands of developers, to allow them to integrate their games with the device. A consumer-oriented ‘Oculus Rift 2.0’ is in the works, and will be aimed at a general market and feature improved components. An increased field of view, improved head tracking, weapon tracking, increased resolution, and wireless operation are some of the features under consideration for the Oculus Rift 2.0.[18] Palmer Luckey has said that such a Head-mounted display (HMD) should be possible in 2013.

And you know what?  That works for me.  Will it be expensive?  Probably yes but hey you can just forget about ever having a life after you get one.  So much for fighting obesity,  maybe the next-gen of these will actually have you run away from the wolves of Skyrim.  That’s what I call IN the game.  Never mind the prostitutes of GTA.
