Ever wonder who really is behind all of those aimless quests you’ve been sent on in the past? That is of course if you are into adventure games, in this case you don’t have to be. There is no interest-requirement needed to play this game and enjoy it. In this epic RPG you manage a town that’s pretty much poorly placed since it is always under attack, making it a great place for adventurers but definitely not at all safe to raise kids. So much for that mobile family-sim game you were hoping this would be. Your goal is to attract and recruit as many adventurers as possible while gradually growing your humble hamlet into a mecca for the lands most brave (or stupid) men and women.
Most of the people stopping by are just passing through for some rest and relaxation while others will visit for a challenge that they think your town would provide. If your town has a reputation for being attacked then you will no doubt want these sword or staff wielding warriors staying at your drafty partially-refurbished Inns. Initially you might start off with about three to four visitors who can barely afford a decent weapon, at which point you might want to start funding their operations. Keep the weapon shop well stocked and send your rag-tag militia out to clear the countryside of those pesky critters who call themselves monsters. If all goes well over a period of time you might start getting requests from your visitors to stay in town to join your budding community. Be careful of who you keep though, a deadbeat adventurer is a useless one.
The improvements are plentiful, you can build facilities like Combat Schools and Magic Labs so that your heroic denizens are not too rusty out there on the field. While it is pretty comical to actually watch the fierce battles take place, don’t be surprised if your favorite little guy or girl gets carried back into town because some monster got the best of him/her. The improvements are not all combat related, in your town you will want to include other things like an ice cream shop or a bakery to help build popularity. The more adventurers the better (an mmorpg philosophy), because when something like a dragon begins to threaten your town you will need all the help you can get.
Like other recent releases, this Kairosoft game has a computer-like interface that can be very annoying unless you are using the clunky button display pad at the bottom of your screen. Sure it takes up space but it’s a small price to pay. If you’re like me and you would rather not use it no matter how much easier it might be, don’t worry you will get used to the touch screen controls at some point. The graphics are pretty much what you would expect from a Kairosoft title and the little characters are hard to take seriously for various reasons but that is OK. The price is a bit steep starting at $4.99 but if you are a fan of the casual/RPG experience I say go for it.
