Angry Birds is an indie title from Rovio Entertainment that grew wildly popular on iOS devices. There is a plush toy line, Halloween costumes and now a Facebook game all based on Angry Birds. The game itself is a simple and addictive physics game wrapped in humorous animations and sound effects.
The basic concept behind Angry Birds is easy to understand. The player slingshots birds across a 2D board to collide with structures in an attempt to knock over or crush any pigs. The concept behind shooting birds at pigs is a little bit more difficult to understand, so let’s stick to the gameplay. Each level the player will have a certain number of birds to fire down the range at the structures and pigs. If there are any pigs left once the player is out of birds, then that level has been failed and the player cannot progress. The player receives a score at the end of completed levels that is based on the number of objects and pigs destroyed and the number of birds that haven’t been shot. The player can earn up to three stars on each level depending on their score, which gives a general high score goal for each board.
Angry Birds on Facebook allows players to compare and attempt to beat the scores of any friends who have played on those same levels. You can challenge your friends to play and compete for stars or high scores. There is also a single feather to collect on each level for attaining complete destruction by calling the Mighty Eagle. This can be especially difficult to attain on some levels.
There are three different sections of levels for Angry Birds, each with a specific theme, some comical pictures and a set number of levels. There are over 100 levels in all along with a bunch of power ups that make birds more effective and pigs easier to hit. The variety just keeps coming when the game starts introducing different types of birds to slingshot. There are five types of birds in total including a standard red bird, a yellow bird that gets and extra boost, a blue bird that splits into three, a black bird that explodes and a white bird that drops an egg. Each bird has its strengths and weaknesses, and the player will have to master each to collect all of the stars.
A player can receive daily rewards for logging in to Angry Birds that come in the form of power ups, which can really help out on difficult levels. Unlike many Facebook games, there is no energy cost or time to wait between levels. A player can continue for as long as they like, or until they can manage to drag themselves away. There is an avatar section that is ‘coming soon’ to Angry Birds and possibly more levels to be added in the future.

Keep in mind that the game is based on physics and that sometimes you can just let gravity do your work by dropping something from above or removing a piece of the structure’s base.
