I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of Facebook based games. However, I always enjoyed playing Fruit Ninja on friends iPhones, and when I saw that a Facebook version, Fruit Ninja Frenzy, was released I decided to try it out. I have to admit, since this game was free to play from Facebook, I was not expecting it to be anything special. This opinion was quickly overturned however after playing this game a few times.

The best part of this game is it was so quick to get into. From the time that I saw the link to the game, it only took mere seconds to get started on playing. The next thing that struck me about this game was its simplicity. Simple controls and a simple objective, just clicking and moving my mouse to cut through as many various fruits that are being projected across the screen while avoiding bombs.

Though this game sounds simple, it very quickly became addicting. What I thought was something I would play to just burn a couple minutes of spare time quickly became something that I played often. One of the things that made me keep going back is the competitive nature of the game. This game may not seem to be a game one would play to be competitive, however, it has the ability to become quite a competition. The game allows you to post your high score and you can also view the high scores of other players. Seeing your friends scores gives you a sense of competition as you strive to be the highest. Though it is a trivial aspect, and something a part of every Facebook based game, the ability to compete for the highest score between friends helps make this game even more entertaining.

The final piece of the game that makes it enjoyable is the graphics. Now this may  seem like a small thing, especially for a Facebook based game. The graphics are not even breath taking in any way, shape, or form. However, the graphics are still decent and most important they operate smoothly. In a game like this where the player needs to be precise on how to cut the as the twirl through the air, having smooth graphics is important. If the graphics were blocky and unclear at some parts, it would make the game unenjoyable.

The downside of this game is that there is only one game mode. Players are giving sixty seconds to cut as many fruit as possible. This mode is fun, but it can get boring doing the same thing over and over again. The only thing that offers a change in the game is the ability to purchase “smoothies” which change aspects of the game, whether it gives players additional time or removes bombs from the game. Though there is only one game mode, it is still very enjoyable to play.

Whether you are looking for a game to just pass the time, or one that you can compete in against your friends, Fruit Ninja Frenzy is an excellent Facebook based game. This game successfully takes the popular Fruit Ninja game, available on iPods and other mobile devices, and makes it a very fun Facebook game.
