The Legend of Zelda series has always been held dear in my heart, ever since Ocarina of Time completely redefined my perception of games and immersion when it came out. I know, however, that I’m definitely not the most hardcore of fans, and am always truly impressed by the creative homages people come up with and their dedication and love for the series.

Just a forewarning for Zelda fans out there: You will, without a doubt, feel a combination of excitement, longing, disappointment and despair upon seeing the following. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Box Set Chest

The sound of opening a chest in any Zelda game is incredibly satisfying. That 12 second ‘Item Get’ sound is instantly recognisable and iconic for anyone who’s played the series. It’s a small touch that even to this day, no matter if I’m playing a new Zelda game (Note to self: Get past the first temple in Skyward Sword) or if I’m playing through one of the old games in the series, knowing full well what awaits me when I throw open the lid of the chest, it still gives me that nostalgic sense of excitement.

Now, imagine being able to open a chest in real life, complete with Triforce insignia, to find the complete backlog of The Legend of Zelda series remade in HD.

Sound too good to be true? Well, that’s because sadly it is. Seriously, don’t expect anything on this list not to crush your excitement and dreams.

Designer Jason Nowak has created a concept box set of Zelda that, if it were to be mass-produced by Nintendo, would destroy the wallets of nerds everywhere, myself included.

Nowak has even created a mockup, wrap-around paper branding that looks very convincingly official.

Nintendo, here’s what you do: contact Mr. Nowak, ask his to collaborate, make a whole lot of these chests, charge whatever the hell you want (seriously) and become even richer than you already are.

Then, you can spend the money to make the next items on this list a reality.

Hyrule: Total War

Rome: Total War has consumed hours upon hours of my life, and so has the Legend of Zelda series. Combining the two would most likely end badly for me, as I’d probably forget to eat, sleep, bathe, and other similar things so-called normal people do when they’re not playing video games.

Hyrule: Total War is a very elaborate and ambitious fan mod that promises to leave uber nerds like myself with shivers down our spines and jaws we’re unable to pick up from the ground.

The yet-to-be-completed (Yes, that’s right. This one may actually be for real) game boasts an impressive roster of playable races (21 to be exact), ranging from Gorons to Zoras and everything in between.

And when I say everything, I mean it. You will have the option to head into battles with an army of fairies. I, for one, am curious as to the abilities of the fairy race. Hopefully their attacks will differ from simply yelling ‘Hey, Listen!’ at the enemies. Although, if I were up against an army of annoying Zelda-universe fairies, I’d probably just surrender by default so I didn’t have to listen to their goddamn incessant nagging.

You can even volunteer to help with the project, if you think you have what it takes.

MAJORAS MASK HD OMGREALLY?!

Upon seeing this trailer, I was amazed. I sat there for the duration, eyes wide and mouth open, all the while thinking exactly what you are: ‘Nintendo, if you do make this, my firstborn is yours!’

This fan-made trailer for the theoretical remake of Majora’s Mask on Wii U boasts incredibly smooth HD graphics and somehow retains both the darker elements of Majora’s Mask as well as the trademark quirk that has made the series so charming.

The trailer is fairly short and shows no gameplay, sadly; however, it does boast some very impressive environments and an art style that’s relatively hard to slap a label on, in the best of ways.

There’s a part of me that still holds onto the hope that this is all an elaborate viral marketing ploy by Nintendo and that they really are responsible for this.

I literally cannot think of  a single other thing that warrants the “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY” meme more than this. And I hate to keep coming back to money but, Nintendo, are you blind? Do you not know that you would sell millions of copies? Oh, no, I guess another new Mario game is fine… Oh, you’re too busy with Wii Sports 2… No, that’s fine. I get it. I should probably save my money anyh–PLEASE, NINTENDO! HAVE YOU NO HEART?!
