Robot Adventure is simple like most of the titles from Runner Games. So there’s this robot who wants go on an adventure, it already flies but only as good as an RC helicopter if not worse. Your objective is to remodel this thing and send it soaring through the very crowded sky. The upgrades are plenty and you have a whole lot of time to test run your rigged tin-man. There is of course some serious trial and error involved here but if the Wright bros didn’t embarrass themselves a few times for aviations sake, well this game certainly would not exist.
32 missions and 20 equipment upgrades should keep you busy for a couple of hours if you’re good. You get a little further away from the original robots design as you progress which is a nice touch. There isn’t much to say about the controls since they can be improved through modifications to your robots engine and handling. By the way, Robot Adventure is not set in a modern time period so think industrial when you try to picture what is going on without playing the game. The setting reminds me of a particularly decent kid’s movie from the get-go, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
The graphics are consistent with everything happening on the screen, meaning the still image of a city in the background at take off is just as noticeable as the steam-punk UFOs up near the ozone layer. The games events are separated into days, at the end of each day (after your robot comes falling out of the sky) you are rewarded based on any milestones you may have achieved. You will notice little bonuses floating around in the sky like extra fuel, health and diamonds.
For every level of the game you get a new set of goals to knock out. They basically span from ‘go higher’ to ‘collect this many diamonds without hitting anything’ so there is some spice involved. There are little factors that play into your flight time like wind speed and sometimes you might even notice stuff unexpectedly falling out of the sky which could be bad news for the robots head so wear a helmet, you have got to love air traffic control. This game almost makes you feel like you are in the middle of a science fair, and you are that only person who built a robot. Not only are you that person, but you’re ambitious and you claim that you can make it fly, and everyone else in the room has their doubts including you. In this case once those engines fire up and your little tin-man lifts his heavy rigid frame into the air, you’re smiling and everyone is happy until it plummets back to the ground. Even then it is still a good feeling.
The negatives are surprising few and far in-between. The music is not the worst and most repetitive stuff I have heard especially when it comes to Android games. The touch controls can be a little be unresponsive at times so when those rockets suddenly stop in mid-flight do not panic. It’s just a glitch. Overall it is definitely one of the better free titles on the market right now so take a look.
