Ubisoft recently released an extended in-game video that was revealed at this year’s E3, featuring the main villain for its upcoming, highly-anticipated sequel Far Cry 4, Pagan Min. After players had to endure the malevolent Vaas in Far Cry 3, it looks like the developers have outdone themselves in crafting a new, deranged antagonist for Far Cry 4. That result is Pagain Min, the self-appointed ruler of Kyrat.
The new video depicts a character who appears to be the game’s protagonist, Ajay Ghale, attempting to sneak into his native home of Kyrat undetected. Unfortunately for Ghale, Pagan Min’s militant soldiers find his bus. Apparent rebels or resistance fighters then try to flee the bus before they are gunned down by the militants. One with a gun tries to fight back. Ghale and his companion attempt to escape before they are subdued by Min’s soldiers. Finally, Pagan Min makes his grand entrance with extravagant style. He flies in on a chopper. Min is clearly not happy with how the leader of the soldiers handled subduing the bus because Min told them to “stop the bus,” not “shoot the bus.” The soldier tries to explain, but Min is not happy with his answer. The result? Min takes a large bullet and repeatedly stabs the soldier with it.
Min looks to be a special type of villain. He’s deranged, sadistic, but also humorously playful. He appears to have a flamboyant fashion sense, wearing pink suits and bleached hair. However, Min is jovial when he meets Ghale. Ghale and Min appear to have a personal connection, of which we do not completely know yet. Min even stops to take a fun little selfie picture with Ghale before Ghale is carted off. Speaking on the Ubiblog, the game’s technical director Cedric Decelle comments on the meeting of the game’s protagonist and antagonist, “That’s not what you would expect from a first contact with an antagonist. Usually it’s a kill and survive situation. But he’s super happy to see you – while around you there’s cars on fire and people dying.”
Bolstered by the dynamic voice of actor Troy Baker, it appears Far Cry 4 will have another great villain for the story. Battling Vaas in Far Cry 3 was quite an experience, but dealing with a despot ruler such as Pagan Min in Far Cry 4 looks like it will be just as much of a bloody good time for players. Far Cry 4 is available on November 18 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
