A new gameplay video has surfaced online for CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and the material continues to look beyond impressive. The new video showcases Geralt of Rivia braving an ominous swamp region. Geralt is tracking a woman with “ashen hair,” and he encounters a small, boyish, elf-like creature named “Johnny.”

This new video was previewed by the CD Projekt Red developers during E3. However, this particular video was not displayed during the Warner Bros. Interactive live, first-look demo during the show. It was shown at the CD Projekt Red booth presentation for the game. Unfortunately, I did not get to see the live presentation during the show.

The ashen-haired woman Geralt is tracking in the video is Ciri. Based on the most recent trailer released for the game, Ciri is being pursued by the Wild Hunt. The Nilfgaardian emperor, Emhyr var Emreis, charges Geralt with capturing Ciri. In The Witcher books, Ciri was Geralt’s adopted daughter.

The video begins with a showcase of Geralt’s Witcher sense, which is like “Detective Mode” from the Batman: Arkham games. In the swamp, an area dubbed No Man’s Land, Geralt is looking for a Godling. In the world of The Witcher, Godlings are wood spirits that resemble small human children. Geralt finds a hut for a small Godling creature named Johnny. He asks Johnny for help in searching for Ciri, and Johnny has seen her in No Man’s Land. Unfortunately, Johnny does not have the ability to speak. Geralt offers to help Johnny regain the ability to speak, and Johnny leads Geralt through the forest.

As the gameplay resumes, Geralt encounters vicious swamp creatures called Drowners. Geralt makes quick work of them with his spells and swordmanship. The combat shows off the game’s new limb slicing and dismemberment system for the action in the game. Johnny and Geralt then reach an ominous ledge circled by a pack of buzzards. A scene starts, and this is an area Geralt must explore to help Johnny to speak again. Then the video cuts off.

The design of the swamp area looks magnificent. The physics and water effects appear equally incredible. The painstaking amount of detail put into the game looks massive. Based on the cut scenes, character models look a lot more expressive and vibrant than in the last game. It was a treat to see Geralt act friendly and compassionate toward the Godling.

Each new video I see for this game gets me more and more pumped to play it. This game could very well be one of the best role-playing games of all time. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on February 24, 2015.
