Ready at Dawn Studios has dropped a new trailer for The Order: 1886 and it provides many more interesting plot details for the game. This two-minute trailer highlights additional story insight than the actual playable demo at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. The new trailer featured some ominous narration by the real-life inventor, Nikola Tesla, who appears to play a crucial role in the story.

The new trailer confirms that Tesla is a member of The Order, an ancient group of knights who are defending England in a war against malevolent Half-Breeds. Based on the trailer, Tesla is essentially the engineer, gadget and weapons designer for The Order in Neo-Victorian London. The Order is essentially a steam punk evolution of the Knights of the Round Table. It is a great idea for Ready at Dawn Studios to make Tesla the “Q” of sorts for the game. I love the steam punk design and setting for the game, and the characters using modern innovations and technology in the past designed by Tesla are awesome .

The trailer seemed to hint at an element of conspiracy. In the E3 demo, there is a sequence where The Order knights appear to discover that the human rebels are getting weapons and arms illegally delivered or stolen for them. This implies that there is a conspiracy against the kingdom within The Order. Perhaps a member of The Order could even be a traitor or a turncoat to the rebels or the Half-Breeds.

The trailer also promoted the tagline that said, “Discover history’s darkest secret.” That could mean any number of things. The origins of the Half-Breed villains for the story are still steeped in mystery. So, I wonder if the tagline pertains to the Half-Breeds. Is the secret that the Half-Breeds were created by humanity? Or does the tagline mean something far more sinister?

Since the trailer is focused on Nikola Tesla, we did not learn much about the other knights of The Order and their various subplots. However, Sir Galahad appears to be the protagonist and plays a prominent role in the trailer. The female knight Isabeau makes an appearance as the knights are doing recon and spots Half-Breeds. The voice acting for the game sounds fantastic.

The cinematic presentation looks utterly phenomenal. The mix of cinematics and third-person shooter combat reminds me of the Uncharted franchise. I cannot wait to play the final game. The Order: 1886 is due out on February 20, 2015 for the PlayStation 4.
