The new “Glimpse Into Kyrat” trailer (available below) for Far Cry 4 delves deeply into the beautiful landscape of the game’s fictional country located in the Himalayas, Kyrat. In addition to traveling to the Himalayan Mountains, it appears that players will take things a step further, as the line between reality and fantasy is blurred with the inclusion of Shangri-La in the game.

The Shangri-La sequences in the trailer look rather fantastical and trippy. As in Far Cry 3, it appears that Ubisoft has no problem with taking the protagonist into the realm of the bizarre and weird throughout the game. The visual of a mythical tiger ally in a bizarre realization of a Shangri-La city, that has small islands floating in the sky and masked demons, is both amusing and awe-inspiring. The visuals for the Shangri-La setting in the game look fantastic. Based on the trailer and an official press release from Ubisoft, the Shangri-La segments will also allow players to slow down time.  It looks like that will come in handy for the players’ archery skills.

I am very excited about the notion of scaling the Himalayan Mountains in the game, which is something I was not able to explore with the demo at the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Using the wingsuit to sail away from avalanches across the mountains will probably be one of my favorite features in the game.

At Gamescom, along with a new trailer, Ubisoft released the details for an exclusive Keys to Kyrat feature for the PlayStation 3 and 4 versions of the game. This will allow Far Cry 4 players to invite friends to play the game via PlayStation Network. Once a friend is invited, the two players can explore the Kyrat open-world map, destroy enemy outposts and gain extra rewards. This feature will allow another player into the game for a free two hour trial period, without even purchasing the actual game. I like the idea of Ubisoft offering a friend gaming invite session for Far Cry 4. The prospect of essentially being able to partake in co-op play without actually owning the game for a sample run looks like an interesting sales tactic. I will be curious to see how well it works in actual execution. That will be central to the success of the Keys to Kyrat feature.

Far Cry 4 is due out on November 18 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
