CD Projekt released a huge chunk of footage a new gameplay video for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. After seeing the video, I’m more excited than ever before for this title, which is one of my most anticipated releases for next year. The video is a combined sequence of previous gameplay videos shown in the past, all connected together. The latest video gives a better idea of how Geralt of Rivia will transition between missions and monster hunts.
The video contains a sizable chunk of material from previous videos, including the sequences from the Downwarren and Swamp gameplay videos. However, the sequences are now extended and include a greater breadth of the encounters. A good point about the entire video is that it reveals a large part of Geralt’s quest in the third game. He is in pursuit of his lost, adopted daughter Ciri. It seems that Ciri is being hunted by the Nilfgaardian Empire and the Wild Hunt.
An extra chunk of Geralt’s visit to Novigrad is included. Part of this sequence was actually shown at the Warner Bros. Interactive booth at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. In addition, the video shows Geralt visiting a spy named Dijkstra. Dijkstra provides Geralt information about where to find Ciri, who is in the swamps with a creature named Johnny. The video also provides a good example of how fast travel will work in the game, since the size of the open-world map looks insanely huge. It looks like fast travel will be important to play the game; otherwise, players might never be able to leave the house for a year to traverse the entire map on foot or horseback. The video transitions to the Swamp gameplay video and Geralt’s visit to the Godling named Johnny. The extended video shows Geralt helping Johnny get his voice back, and Geralt is dispatched on his next quest by The Ladies. This sends Geralt on the Downwarren gameplay video mission, where he faces a werewolf. I believe some of this footage was also shown at Comic-Con, although the sound infamously cut out.
The new cutscenes look spectacular as Geralt encounters the Ladies of the Wood, several lugubrious crones who have important information regarding the whereabouts of Ciri. Based on the choices Geralt can make that will affect the gameplay, I wonder if there are other ways to deal with these malevolent-looking creatures.
With each new gameplay video, I am more amped and excited for this title. I cannot wait to get lost in this world. One thing I have noticed in the new videos: CD Projekt Red really improved the sound design and soundtrack for the third game. The sound design in this game sounds a lot more varied and layered than the often repetitive soundtrack for The Witcher 2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on February 24, 2015.
