The release of WWE 2K15 is just over two months away. In the last two weeks, I expected some big reveals. However, 2K Games has not officially released any actual edited gameplay footage for the game. While some select screenshots, roster announcements and gameplay features have been revealed, there is still no actual footage. This is highly disturbing and frustrating for such a big game title that is due out in just two months.

There are some pros and cons to this tactic by 2K Games. One pro: It increases anticipation for the game. Fans will want to see the game and find out more about it. Another pro: The marketing for the game can be more focused, with lots of footage right before the release. However, the lack of footage this close to release raises some questions. Is the game ready for an October release? Did 2K Games and Visual Concepts have enough time to polish the game? Also, it seems like some new footage should be out by now.

The only existing footage is fan-shot video from the playable demo at Gamescom 2014. A trailer was released consisting only of previously released screenshots and no actual new video footage. 2K Games has been remarkably stingy about releasing footage of the game. This begs the question: Why? Would it really hurt to show off some video in an official Gamescom trailer release? It was also very surprising that the game had zero presence at E3 2014. I am very excited about the game, and I hope it’s awesome. However, the lack of actual material released so far is a concern.

The Superstar reveals for the new roster are nice, but why is there no footage to show them in action? I am excited to finally play as Sting in a WWE game, but I have no idea how Sting will look or what it will be like to play Sting in the actual game. Granted, WWE is a powerful brand for pro wrestling and sports entertainment, but the lack of footage this late in the game is still surprising.

To be fair, my concerns could be completely off the mark. The lack of footage so far could just be a marketing strategy on the part of 2K Games. I will check out this game no matter what; but at this point, I would like to see a trailer, a video demo or something similar. WWE 2K15 hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 28.
