The Electronic Entertainment Expo, San Diego Comic-Con and Gamescom are in the books; but there are still more gaming conventions to look forward to close out the summer and break in the fall. PAX Prime hits Seattle later this month. And next month I will experience the 2014 GameStop Expo in Anaheim. After pouring over the lineup for the convention, I want to check in with some of my top picks of games I hope to play at the convention.

HONORABLE MENTION: Halo 2: Anniversary

The remastered version of Halo 2 is confirmed to have a hands-on demo at the convention this year. That means I will probably lose a good chunk of time blasting bad guys as Master Chief. I cannot wait to re-live the adventures of Halo 2 remastered in HD for the new generation of consoles.

5. Dragon Age: Inquisition

My understanding is that Dragon Age: Inquisition will have a playable demo during the GameStop Expo. However, the press release was vague regarding whether the demo is hands-on. Still, I look forward to checking out the next chapter in the Dragon Age franchise.

4. Lords of the Fallen

Is this a Dark Souls clone? It very well could be. However, that does not necessarily have to be a bad thing. I like a good hack and slash RPG; and Lords of the Fallen has a cool, medieval fantasy setting and some great monster designs. The game also looks like it has an interesting protagonist and a more involved scenario. Ultimately, I want to get my hands on this title to decide for myself.

3. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Of all the titles that will be displayed the Expo this year, I know with absolute certainty that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be playable at the convention. My assumption is that the playable demo will include the segments shown at E3.

2. Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation

My hope is that Alien: Isolation is playable. So far, the look and style of this game appear fantastic–a tremendous recreation of Ridley Scott’s aesthetic with the 1979 sci-fi classic. However, I am still cautiously optimistic about the franchise, noting Aliens: Colonial Marines.

1. Dying Light

This is one of the titles I missed at E3 this year, so I hope to make up for that and spend some time with Dying Light. Techland did a tremendous job with the Dead Island franchise, and what I have seen from Dying Light looks gorgeous. The zombie enemies and challenges look insane. The threat that nightfall poses looks terrifying. Dying Light is a title I definitely want to see showcased.
