Deep Silver announced a new standalone expansion, along with a new trailer, for Saints Row IV this week, which is entitled Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. This new expansion has been developed as an epilogue to the hit Saints Row IV game. The new trailer looks awesome and hilarious, and it looks like a great concept for the Saints Row Universe.

The best thing about the expansion is that players will now be able to play as Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington for the first time in franchise history. Based on the trailer, Gat gets to shoot Satan in the face. How awesome is that? From the looks of the video, the Boss is looking for a partner to rule the universe alongside him while the Saints gang plays Ouija. The game board spells out the name “Jezebel” before a hellish portal opens up and sucks in the Boss. So, Johnny Gat and Kinzie go to Hell to save the Boss from Satan. The problem? Satan wants to marry off his daughter, Jezebel, to the Boss of the Saints. After viewing this trailer and the promise of playing as Gat and Kinzie, I am totally in for the expansion.

The PlayStation blog post on the release contains some additional gameplay details for the expansion. The game’s version of Hell is dubbed New Hades, which features five new islands to explore. A new supernatural power for the expansion is angelic flight. Based on the blog post, it sounds like other superpowers will be back, but with new “supernatural twists.” The Seven Legendary Deadly Weapons are also included, and I assume that they will be humorous weapons based on the Seven Deadly Sins. Apparently, players will also get some closure on old friends. Going  by the trailer, Dane Vogel from Saints Row 2 will definitely appear in the game. I would not mind finding Zinyak in Hell just to smack him around more. My favorite vehicle will probably be the recliner La-Z-Boy with the dueling gatling guns.

One of my favorite elements of the Saints Row franchise is the games’ wicked, twisted sense of humor. It appears that Gat Out of Hell will have this in spades. Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell is a standalone expansion, and will be released on January 27, 2015 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. The expansion will also be bundled with the next-gen PS4 version of Saints Row IV, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected
