2K Games recently announced that WWE 2K15’s release date for the next-gen consoles has been delayed until November 18. The current-gen versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will still be released on the originally scheduled release date of October 28. I have been incredibly concerned about the progress of this title. The game had virtually no presence at the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year. While I am glad the developers have been given more time to polish the game and fix the bugs, I wonder if November 2014 is still enough time to finish the next-gen versions of the game.
In recent months, the gaming industry has seen a hefty number of delays on major triple A game releases. For the most part, this is a good thing. It demonstrates a certain level of patience by the publishers and some integrity on the part of developers that they want to release the best, most polished products possible. Batman: Arkham Knight was delayed almost a year. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was pushed from 2014 to 2015. Dying Light was delayed to 2015. Assassin’s Creed received a small delay, but it was pushed back to November as well.
There has been virtually no footage released for WWE 2K15. There have been a handful of screenshots, some promotional artwork and entrance videos. Other than that, hardly any official footage released for the game. A playable demo was available for the game at Gamescom and the GameStop Expo. Unfortunately, the demo was very rough and buggy. I was told by 2K representatives that the demo was an early build. I can believe that; but I am more concerned that the game is so close to release, and there has not even been an actual trailer. The game has been delayed three weeks, but days ago the release was still weeks away, without with an actual trailer. In the past, WWE games actually had a presence at E3 the year they were going to be released. That was not the case this year.
This could be paranoia speaking, but my concern is that 2K Games and Visual Concepts are rushing this game out for a holiday release. I hope that is not the case, but based on a slow and very rough demo and a lack of footage, the doubt is there. The delay for the next-gen consoles is not surprising after playing such a rough demo at GameStop Expo and the lack of footage. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions still come out next month. However, those versions have less content. The 2K Showcase story mode will not even be available for the current-gen versions.
WWE 2K15 hits the PS4 and Xbox One on November 18. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are due out on October 28.
I’m pretty sure it’s the Mycareer mode that’s next-gen only. 2k Showcase is on both versions.
