Disney Infinity 2.0: Yondu and Falcon Are Great Additons

Disney Infinity 2.0

Disney Interactive has confirmed that Marvel characters Yondu and Falcon will be added to Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes. Variety reports that the new figurines will be released in 2015. While neither character would have been my first choice for the expansion, I believe both characters are great essential additions for the game.

Yondu’s figurine is based on his appearance from the live-action Guardians of the Galaxy movie, much like the Guardians cast members for the game’s Guardians of the Galaxy playset. An image of Falcon’s figurine has not been released, but one can assume his figurine will be based on his appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I doubt it will be based on his animated appearance and costume in Avengers Assemble, which is a more classic rendition of Falcon. Disney Infinity 2.0 does have a playset based on a Marvel animated cartoon in Ultimate Spider-Man, but that is because Marvel does not have the live-action film rights for Spider-Man. All the other Marvel figurines in the game are based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That said, I would not mind seeing more Marvel Animation playsets, based on shows such as Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of SMASH.

Still, I am glad to see the game is getting more Marvel characters. It is massively exciting that an obscure character like Yondu is getting his own figurine. The character made his debut in 1969 and was created by Arnold Drake and Gene Colan. Falcon, aka Sam Wilson, also first appeared in 1969 and was created by Stan Lee and Colan. Falcon has a rich and storied history with Marvel. In fact, later this fall Falcon will take up the mantle of Captain America from Steve Rogers in All-New Captain America No. 1.

Ultimately, I want to see more characters from all across the Marvel pantheon added to the game, but Yondu and Falcon are an excellent start. Disney Interactive is bound to take advantage of the major success of Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier at the box office this year. I am not saying there should be a Howard the Duck figurine; but at some point, who knows? With the game title of Disney Infinity, the possibilities look absolutely infinite. However, at the end of the day, I will be heartbroken if the game never gets Darkwing Duck above all else.

Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes hits the shelves on September 23, 2014 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows PC and iOS.
