Warner Bros. Interactive released one last behind-the-scenes featurette video for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor ahead of next week’s imminent release of the game. The latest video provides a more expansive look at the game, the key characters and the Nemesis system. The game already appears to be scoring some impressive review scores. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looks poised to become a sizable hit. The latest video has me even more pumped about the exciting new adaptation of author J.R.R. Tolkien’s amazing work.

The new video provides some juicy plot reveals. Some of the new details shown in the new video were only hinted at in previous trailers and gameplay videos. The new featurette confirms that Celebrimbor is amnesiac when he assists in Talion’s resurrection. Celebrimbor has a significant role in the events of The Lords of the Rings books. He was the elf who forged the Rings of Power. The Dark Lord Sauron, in his fair form, deceived Celebrimbor. There is a glimpse of this younger, fairer version of Sauron. It sounds like Sauron’s false form is voiced by none other than Steven Blum, a fantastic choice to say the least. A visual narrative depiction of the history between Sauron and Celebrimbor is exciting. It is a great exploration of the themes of corruption, good and evil in Middle-earth saga. Celebrimbor was an unwitting accomplice in Sauron’s schemes. Although Celebrimbor helped shape the events of the franchise, he was not an evil or malicious being. Like many, he was tricked and deceived by Sauron. The video confirms that Talion and Celebrimbor uncover the pieces of Celebrimbor’s past, and the Wraith begins to gradually regain his memory.

Gollum, of course, had already been confirmed for the game; but the new video shows that Talion will receive help along the way from some other allies on his quest for revenge. Talion’s knowledge of using beasts of Mordor as his mounts does not appear to be an inherent ability. The ranger will receive help in this area from a Dwarven beast hunter named “Tolvin.”

I believe that the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor story will ultimately entail the fruitless and darkness of a path for revenge. Since the game takes place in the intervening years between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, it is safe to say that Talion and Celebrimbor fail in their task. Sauron’s forces are alive and well by the time The Fellowship of the Ring rolls around. Celebrimbor’s powers of mind control and conquest, despite their use in a quest to battle evil, could still be corrupting influences on Talion.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 30.
