WWE and 2K Games finally released the first TV spot, titled “Feel It,” for WWE 2K15. The ad comes about a week before the game’s release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, and three weeks ahead of the release for the next-gen consoles. The new one-minute spot features a voice-over of WWE Superstar John Cena reciting the Dylan Thomas poem, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.” It is a good TV spot, and it features some new footage. However, it contains a sparse amount of new footage. I am still concerned about the lack of material 2K Games has released so far, but the new ad is better than nothing.
I do like the format and pacing of the ad. It features a lot of cool, dark and grim footage of various WWE Superstars and Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan. The live-action footage looks very cool and cinematic. I especially like the shot of Cesaro, all dressed up in a suit and driving a car. He looks like some sort of suave hitman or European gangster. The promo has what appears to be the first bit of footage of the Ultimate Warrior released for the game. It looks like Ultimate Warrior will wear his face-paint and attire from around 1988-1989. It is great to see Ultimate Warrior in action in the video, where he performs his trademark military press slam.
There is still an insane lack of footage available for the game, especially in comparison to what was available last year for the lead-up to the release of WWE 2K14. The rough demo build that was available last month at the GameStop Expo causes great concern. Couple that with the game’s delay for the next-gen consoles until November 18, and one wonders if the game is being rushed to make its launch ahead of the holiday crunch.
It is disappointing that one of WWE’s most popular stars, Daniel Bryan, was nowhere to be seen in the ad. John Cena is WWE’s top star. I get it. However, would it have been so hard to feature Bryan in more of the ads? He was the man who overcame the odds to appear in the main event WrestleMania 30. His footage was only scantly featured in the first gameplay trailer.
WWE 2K15 hits the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next week. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions hit the shelves on November 18. A Windows PC version of the game is also being developed.
