Lately, Bungie has opted to “fix” any potential exploits and shortcuts players are using for Destiny. In the Vault of Glass, players have to face Atheon as the final boss for the Vault of Glass Raid. However, players discovered a way to quickly defeat Atheon by pushing him over the edge of a high cliff to his impending doom. That is not what Bungie wanted out of the Atheon fight. Therefore, the game will be updated so players cannot push Atheon over the edge. Other hot fixes include the nerfing of weapons like the Mythoclast, and the removal of “Treasure Cave” exploits in Old Russia. The things Bungie is fixing do not really improve the overall experience in the game. Bungie should fix elements that would make the game less of a grind to level 30, such as improving the Gunsmith and Cryptarch.
The Cryptarch is the being at the Tower in The City who decrypts Engrams that players pick up during the game. When you give the Cryptarch an Engram to decrypt or buy one from him, it raises the level of your “Cryptarch Rank.” Supposedly, raising your Cryptarch Rank to a higher level yields higher level items. Well, that is not really the case. Even at a higher level, the level of loot that I receive from Engram drops is not necessarily better. I still tend to get weapons that are mostly obsolete at my level (Level 28). One would believe that a higher Cryptarch Rank would yield better loot from the Engrams; or, perhaps the Cryptarch would have higher level Engrams for the player to buy. No. Players may only buy those from Xur over the weekend. It would make sense to have a hotfix so the Cryptarch would provide the ability to purchase higher level Engrams at his shop. Currently, the Cryptarch rank is useless and does not appear to produce any meaningful results.
Gunsmith is currently the other useless vendor. The items and weapons the Gunsmith sells are ineffectual. Just days into the game, the weapons the Gunsmith provides are obsolete. He tends to only have common or uncommon weapons that are about as effective as peashooters in the fight against the darkness. The Gunsmith no longer serves a purpose. Why not a hotfix to the Gunsmith where players could take a weapon to him and pay for some type of customization? Why would this be so hard? There are Shaders to customize the color of player armor, so why not have Shaders for the weapons as well? Another idea would be some sort of Gunsmith bounty for quicker weapon upgrades. Typically, weapons require XP and certain parts for upgrades. Why not provide a way to take an active role to help the Gunsmith for specific task-based missions to get upgrades for weapons, including Legendary and Exotic ones? Otherwise, the Gunsmith no longer serves much of a purpose.
Simply put, it is frustrating that Bungie is constantly figuring out ways to curb farming and grinding with Destiny. The issues that could really use fixing or addressing do not happen.
