Ubisoft released the latest trailer for Far Cry 4, highlighting the intense and personal story for protagonist Ajay Ghale. The latest video is reminiscent of the style of the recent “Survive Kyrat” trailer that was released last month. The new video comes complete with another updated, modern pop version of a classic song. For the Survive Kyrat trailer, it was a cover of “I Will Survive.” For the new story trailer, the updated song is Steppenwolf’s “Born to be Wild.”
The latest video showcases the personal story for Ajay Ghale as he is tasked with fulfilling the dying wish of his mother. Ghale returns to the country of his parents where he was born, Kyrat, in order to spread his late mother’s ashes. Instead, Ghale is drawn into a plot to overthrow the Kyrat’s dictatorship, run by the tyrannical Pagan Min.
The new trailer has some great new footage with the sadistic Pagan Min. He converses with Ghale in an interesting way…calmly with some delicacy, in what appears to be the chilled monkey brains from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom between the two arch enemies. I am not sure if the Temple of Doom reference is intentional, but it definitely looks like a fun callback to that film.
In addition, the video provides a wider look at the other parties in the conflict for power in Kyrat. There is some great new footage with the character Amita, who looks like she could turn out to be a potential love interest. Amita and Sabal appear to be part of a resistance movement to overthrow Pagan Min. However, Ghale is drawn into some dissent between Amita and Sabal. I imagine the game could branch out with respect to Ghale’s loyalty between Amita and Sabal. I am curious to see how the relationships with those characters will play out, and if my love interest theory proves correct.
The story trailer reveals a lot of new extreme action. The footage revealed use of a hang glider, speed boats and jet skis. The hang glider is an exciting new accouterment, and I am looking forward to trying it out.
The most exciting sequence showcases a stage where it appears that Ajay Ghale is forced to take part in a sick gladiatorial type of game in a fight for his life. The footage reveals more of Dr. Noore Najaar, the Vice Lord of Kyrat. Based on the footage and other videos, Najaar does not appear to be an ally, but I suppose her allegiances could change over the course of the game.
Far Cry 4 hits the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC in North America and Europe on November 18.
