WWE and 2K Games have released the latest behind the scenes featurette for the upcoming video game, WWE 2K15. The new gameplay video highlights the game’s comprehensive MyCareer Mode. Despite my concerns about the game, most of the footage shown looks impressive. The development team, clearly and painstakingly, re-created WWE’s developmental league, NXT, for the game. Not to mention, the game offers a faithful interactive rendition of the WWE Performance Center.
Most of the new video focused on the advent of the real life WWE Performance Center. In the past, WWE ran small territory leagues, Ohio Valley Wrestling or Florida Championship Wrestling, as its developmental territories. Later in 2012, WWE founded NXT as its official developmental promotion and league for up-and-coming performers. The home base of NXT is the new WWE Performance Center, which is depicted in the game along with head trainer and former WWE Superstar Bill DeMott. The new video basically confirms that DeMott serves as a non-playable character model to coach the players in the NXT portion of My Career Mode. In the video, the development team discuss how the NBA 2K franchise’s version of My Career Mode inspired a similar version for WWE 2K15.
The WWE formation of its own official training center and developmental league was a revolutionary, groundbreaking idea. My Career Mode takes a new player from the very bottom of WWE Developmental to the main event scene at WrestleMania. That is a great way to depict the journey of a WWE Superstar or Diva. WWE NXT has already produced fantastic Superstars such as the members of The Shield: Seth Rollins; Dean Ambrose; and Roman Reigns. Divas champion Paige also came from NXT. However, The guys I really want to see in the gameare the newly signed NXT Superstars Hideo Itami (formerly KENTA), Finn Balor (formerly Prince Devitt) and Kevin Owens (formerly Kevin Steen). Those aforementioned wrestlers were tremendous performers outside the WWE, and they are poised to break out as the huge Superstars of tomorrow.
The video provides a real-life look at the training and workouts that take place for the wrestling rookies at the Performance Center, juxtaposed to the gameplay footage. WWE Hall of Famer and pro wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes and William Regal, a former WWE Superstar and current talent scout, both discuss the important of NXT and the Performance Center. It looks exciting that the game will depict the arduous journey from an NXT rookie to a main event player in the WWE.
WWE 2K15 finally hits the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18. The My Career Mode is exclusive to the next-gen consoles.
