Ubisoft has released a new extended gameplay trailer for Far Cry 4, the official 101 trailer. The extended, interactive videos that Ubisoft has been putting out are nicely put together and provide an excellent  overview of the game. The Far Cry 4 official 101 trailer is no exception.

The 101 presents a great look at the capabilities and items of the game. Some of the new footage showcases how vehicles may be wielded as literal weapons throughout the game. Just like a high-octane action movie, Ajay Ghale may attach explosives to cars or buggies and run them into enemy encampments. Those sequences look particularly incredible.

I was not yet aware of the newest wrinkle for the gameplay showcased in the 101 video: the Elephant and Tiger skill trees. The marketing materials for the game have highlighted a great deal of Tiger vs. Elephant skill trees. In addition, The tiger and elephant animals play a big role throughout the actual gameplay for Far Cry 4. The tiger and elephant appear to act as spirit animals for Ajay Ghale, and perhaps other characters in the game. In short, the game will have two skill trees for players: the Path of the Elephant; and the Path of the Tiger. The Path of the Tiger is focused on stealth attacks and quickness. The Path of the Elephant is focused on strengthening offensive attacks and defense for the player. Based on my gameplay styles and sensibilities, it is likely that I will favor the Path of the Elephant skill tree, so I will probably focus on that route. In comparison, Far Cry 3 had three skill trees. I think three skill trees are a bit much anyway. Two will probably serve to streamline the gaming and make it a tad simpler.

The video showcases an impressive amount of depth for the crafting mode in the game. Plants can be crafted for drugs and healing medicine. It is actually possible to convert animal hides into new holsters for weapons and ammo. So besides gutting animals for meat and bait, Ajay can collect their hides for useful upgrades. As the old saying goes, “You must use all parts of the buffalo.” Additions like that are incredibly fun and promising.

Far Cry 4 finally hits the shelves on November 18 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. Hopefully, the game will not suffer the multitude of launch problems that currently plague Assassin’s Creed Unity.
