About three weeks after the last content update, EA Sports released a brand-new, free content update for EA Sports UFC. I have been a big fan of the content updates. While I am not an enthusiast of patches, I think it is a good idea for games to offer free, new content, rather than making players pay for it. The new update contains several new fighters for download. That currently puts the roster at about 111 fighters, which is even half the amount UFC parent company, ZUFFA LLC, currently has under contract. That is a sizeable dent.

First up for the update is lightweight fighter Myles Jury. Jury is currently ranked No. 8 in the official UFC lightweight division rankings. Despite an unsuccessful stint on The Ultimate Fighter, Jury has been on a tear since he made his official Octagon debut in 2012. Since that time, he has won a very impressive seven fights in a row, four of which were finishes. Jury is currently scheduled for a huge fight against Donald Cerrone in the co-main event at UFC 182 in January 2015. Jury is easily a legit top 10 lightweight now, so he definitely belongs in the game.

Next up is UFC middleweight fighter Yoel Romero. Romero has an MMA record of 9-1, and he is 5-0 in the UFC. Four of his five Octagon victories came by way of knockout. Romero currently sits at No. 6 of the official UFC middleweight rankings. Romero brings a certain prestige to the cage. He is an Olympic silver medalist in freestyle wrestling. Romero won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney, Australia for his home country of Cuba. Romero is an exciting competitor and a rising star. It is great to see an MMA fighter with an Olympic wrestling background make it into the game, alongside Sara McMann.

Finally, heavyweight fighter Andrei Arlovski has been added in the new content update. Arlovski has a record of 23-10, 1 NC. Arlovski’s inclusion is especially prestigious since he is a former UFC heavyweight champion. In 2014, he fought in the Octagon for the first time in over six years. Arlovski won a close split decision against Brendan Schaub that was not well received. However, he bounced back at UFC Fight Night 51 with a huge win over former heavyweight title contender Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Arlovski won the fight by knockout less than three minutes into the first round, showing that this 15+ year veteran still has some gas left in the tank. Arlovski is a legend and a great addition to the game.

Over the last few months, EA Sports has done a good job of steadily adding new fighters to the game. The new models for content update five look great. Hopefully, additions of fighters such as Josh Barnett, Matt Mitrione, Ben Rothwell, Eddie Alvarez, Rafael dos Anjos and Bethe Correia are not far behind. That is, just to name a few. The fifth EA Sports UFC content update is currently available for free download for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
