Bungie unleashed another new video to promote Destiny’s new expansion content, The Dark Below. What is interesting about the video? It showcases the level 31 Hunter Guardian, DrCrispy93. Basically, the video features DrCrispy93 telling players why they should buy The Dark Below. The video is clearly a promotional tool and performs the hard sell for The Dark Below. That said, the video is fun and amusing.

Due to his appearance in the video, it is pretty clear that DrCrispy93 is an invention of Bungie. The Guardian is most likely a Bungie staff member testing out or playing The Dark Below at the Bungie offices. The profile on DestinyDB appears to be a carefully made fabrication. The video is fun because it actually references some inside jokes. It demonstrates that Bungie has a sense of humor about the multitude of criticisms for Destiny. When DrCrispy93 does a sliding kill on another Guardian in a Crucible game clip, he shouts, “Call me when you level up, bro!” That is funny. In another clip, DrCrispy93 shows off his Raid rocket launcher, the Dragon’s Breath. He jokes, “I didn’t get this up in no stinking loot cave! Maybe…other stuff…but not this.” The little poke by Bungie at the loot cave is humorous.

My favorite part: DrCrispy93 discusses Eris. DrCrispy93 actually points out that Eris is a shady looking character and says, “Yeah, she looks like trouble, but when has that ever stopped you before?” DrCrispy93 raises a good point, but I still doubt the trustworthiness of Eris, as well as some of the other allies in the Tower. I only wish the game contained a little more humor or something to latch onto–such as a DrCrispy93 character. I realize the whole DrCrispy93 is a marketing gimmick, but the game needs some better characterizations than those depicted so far. A character like DrCrispy93, gimmick or not, is better than nothing.

DrCrispy93 promotes a lot of the new gear available for the expansion and the new Raid, Crota’s End. All the new gear and weapons look enticing. However, after participating and beating the Raid multiple times, I can say from experience that the loot drops for those runs are rather disappointing. The Necrocasm, which looks like a weapon designed by the Hive, seems like a cool weapon. Other footage shows the Guardians using another Hive sword in The Dark Below. I wonder if that means more weaponry in the DLC will be based off what the enemies use.

Destiny: The Dark Below expansion will be released on December 9. The expansion will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The next expansion, House of Wolves, is scheduled for a release some time in 2015.
