EA Sports UFC: Breakdown of Announced Fighters for Legends Pack

EA Sports UFC

Earlier this week, I provided a list of the top five MMA fighters and living legends I want to see represented in the pack. EA Sports has revealed the first two fighters for the upcoming UFC Legends downloadable content pack for EA Sports UFC. The first two fighters announced for the Legends pack include retired athletes Matt Hughes and Mark Coleman. Both fighters are excellent additions to the game and for the MMA Legends pack.

Matt Hughes is actually No. 3 for my top five list. I am happy to see him confirmed. Matt Hughes is an easy choice for the Legends pack. His run in the UFC as the welterweight champion is synonymous with greatness. Matt Hughes’ mentor and trainer, Pat Miletich, may have been the pioneer of UFC’s 170-pound division, but Hughes was the man who essentially built welterweight. Hughes is a member of the elite UFC Hall of Fame. In 2001, Hughes won the welterweight title from Carlos Newton at UFC 34 in an epic moment. Hughes was caught in a triangle choke by Newton, but he lifted Newton up in the air and slammed Newton to the mat to score the knockout.  Over the course of the next several years, Hughes defended the belt six times before losing it to BJ Penn. He won the title, yet again, by submitting Georges St-Pierre at UFC 50. This was before GSP would start his epic run as champion. Hughes was known for his well-rounded style and his amazing slams that were great equalizers in many of his fights.

Mark Coleman was the second fighter confirmed for the EA Sports UFC MMA Legends DLC pack. “The Hammer” just missed my top five list. However, he is still a worthy addition to the game. Coleman is known as the “Godfather of Ground and Pound,” for pioneering the ground and pound technique in the early days of the sport. In the 1990s, he won the UFC 10 tournament. At UFC 12, he defeated Dan “The Beast” Severn to win the UFC heavyweight title. Subsequently, Coleman experienced a significant losing streak in the UFC, but he managed to reignite his career in Japan’s now-defunct Pride FC promotion. In 2000, Coleman won all four of his fights in the Pride Openweight Grand Prix tournament. His victory celebration for the finals is almost as legendary as his winning the tournament. Coleman is another UFC Hall of Famer and a former NCAA Division I wrestling champion. He is an excellent addition for EA Sports UFC.

Two more fighters for the pack will soon be announced. I look forward to the announcement of the identities for the last two fighters for the pack.
