Comedian Joe Rogan has stated, “You can’t stop the internet.” Well, it seems Ubisoft is learning this lesson. A report from Kotaku has leaked the details and some early images from a gameplay video for the next installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed Victory. However, with the wave of negativity and multitude of issues that have surrounded the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, does Ubisoft really want to launch yet another Assassin’s Creed game next year? Perhaps it is not the soundest idea.

The attempt to release Assassin’s Creed games annually is a bit much, and a huge turnaround for the franchise was not the best move. Case in point, the broken launch for Assassin’s Creed Unity. It caused the game to suffer among fans and critics alike. Yet Ubisoft is ready to turn around another major Assassin’s Creed title next year–this time with Victory. Granted, the Ubisoft Quebec office is handling the game instead of Ubisoft Montreal. However, it is my understanding that Ubisoft Quebec only developed the expansion DLC content for Assassin’s Creed III, The Tyranny of King Washington, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Freedom Cry. Will Quebec be able to handle the full development of a game? It appears that Ubisoft Montreal did not have enough time to build Assassin’s Creed Unity for the next-gen consoles.

The flawed launch for Assassin’s Creed Unity shows that perhaps Assassin’s Creed does not need to be an annual series. In addition, publishers need to give developers more time to polish a new game, especially when using the new-gen technology.

The issues aside, I like the new setting for the game. In September, I put together a list of the top five time periods I wanted to see in Assassin’s Creed next. Victorian London was No. 4 on that list, and the new game is set in 19th century London. A game that involves the Assassin Order and the Templar, perhaps in the case of Jack the Ripper, would be very interesting.

To Ubisoft’s credit, the publisher is not happy the news got out. Ubisoft was not ready to unveil the game. The news was leaked. In a way, the leak makes Ubisoft look bad. The publisher is already having a public relations nightmare with the Unity problems. The news of Victory makes the company look superficial, as if it does not care about the problems that Unity currently faces. The statement Ubisoft released makes it appear that the company’s main priority at the moment is fixing the issues with Unity.

Assassin’s Creed Victory is reportedly slated for a 2015 launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
