Capcom has released the latest trailer for Resident Evil Revelations 2. The new game resembles a strong throwback to the survival horror roots of the franchise. The game features the long-awaited return of Claire Redfield as a playable character for the franchise. In addition, the game features the return of another favorite old-school Resident Evil, Barry Burton, who will be a playable character for the game. The news is very exciting. Resident Evil Revelations 2 will mark the first time Burton is a playable character for the franchise in the single-player story campaign mode. I am not really counting The Mercenaries mode for Resident Evil 5. It is great to see that Burton is back and that he will be a playable in the game.
The video opens with Barry Burton alone on a small boat. He is listening in anguish and anger to a distress call from his daughter, Moira Burton, who is another major character in the game. Burton sails and docks at a remote island. Apparently it is the same island where Claire Redfield and Moira Burton are trapped. Burton checks out his Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSSA) badge, which labels him as a “combat specialist.” According to the trailer description, Burton is back in the field as a BSAA advisor. Presumably, that means Burton has not been active in the field for some time. He has been reactivated as a BSAA field agent to rescue his daughter. The trailer depicts some flashes of gameplay video, with Burton exploring the island and battling bio organic weapons and beasts.
The action footage is juxtaposed with footage of Barry being haunted by a younger ghostly image of his daughter. One shot of footage makes it appear that Barry is tracking the footsteps of Claire and Moira. Has Burton arrived at the island too late? The trailer footage looks quite dark and ominous. The chance to finally play as Barry Burton in a scenario that is reminiscent of the original game constitutes a great bonus for Revelations 2.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be released as four digital episodes early next year. Episode One drops on February 17. Episode Two is slated for a February 24 release. March 3 will see the release of episode three, and Episode Four hits on March 10. Each episode is priced at $5.99 individually or $24.99 for a season pass with all the episodes. Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be playable for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC.
