The first inaugural PlayStation Experience has been completed as of last Sunday. Sony held its first inaugural PlayStation Experience convention to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first Sony PlayStation video game console. Many new games were previewed and on display for players. I have compiled a list of my favorite game previews from the convention. Some noticeable omissions include titles like Batman: Arkham Knight. I am still very excited about Batman: Arkham Knight, but the new gameplay trailer shown at the convention did not feature any new footage. The Scarecrow DLC trailer did have some new footage, but not enough to really warrant a place on the list. I have already seen the footage from the Ace Chemicals trailer at the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

HONORABLE MENTION: Dragon Ball Xenoverse

Generally, I am not much into the Dragon Ball Z video games. However, I am a big fan of Dragon Ball Z, and anime and manga. On a whim, I decided to play the demo for Dragon Ball Xenoverse; and lo and behold, I actually liked it. The folks at Dimps really have stepped up their game for this next-gen version of the Dragon Ball video game franchise. The controls were very smooth and responsive, and the combat was a lot of fun. The gameplay demo really made me feel like I was actually playing an episode of DBZ.

5. Bloodborne

Fans of the Dark Souls franchise will not be disappointed where Bloodborne is concerned. I finally got the chance to play the game at PlayStation Experience. As in Dark Souls, the game provides a suitable and difficult challenge. The setting for the game is awe-inspiring. The city of Y’harnam is a haunted cesspool of death, disease and evil. The creature models look amazing. The graphics and visuals were very impressive and fluid. I also enjoyed the Hunter’s weapons, like wielding a gigantic blunderbuss.

4. Street Fighter V

[youtube url=”http://youtu.be/A79_DszqteU”]

Street Fighter V was officially unveiled at the PlayStation Experience. In a tremendous coup, Capcom revealed that Street Fighter V will be a title that is exclusive to PS4 and Windows PC. Granted, I am skeptical about whether the game will be truly exclusive. I have heard that before. To the people who are fretting about the news: Business is business. Microsoft got Lara Croft: Rise of the Tomb Raider as an Xbox exclusive. Nintendo got Bayonetta 2.  That is the nature of the business. I am excited about the latest numbered installment of the Street Fighter franchise, and I am very happy it is a PS4 game.

3. Until Dawn

[youtube url=”http://youtu.be/NdWelbl9B9w”]

I was very curious about this one, and the demo at PlayStation Experience was quite a trip. Here is how I would most easily describe this title. Basically, Supermassive Games has taken the style of titles like Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls and made a game with a classic slasher horror movie 101 plot. The story features a branching plot set around eight friends who vacation at a remote cabin in the woods. Soon the party is interrupted by a bloodthirsty killer. The demo was intriguing. It definitely created some nice jump scares straight out of a classic horror film. It was fun to see how the different choices made in the demo would affect the outcome. The playable demo at PlayStation experience had a sequence involving the character of Sam, played by actress Hayden Panettiere. Her virtual avatar spends the whole demo in a towel while she is chased by an evil, masked assailant. I realize the point is to emulate a horror movie, but it is rather over-the-top.

2. The Order: 1886

[youtube url=”http://youtu.be/pFyoHXLu3zM”]

The demo for this game that was available at the Electronic Entertainment Expo was a bit of a letdown. It was simply too short and did not provide a sizable look at the game. The PlayStation Experience demo gave a nice slice of gameplay for players to truly enjoy. I was already intrigued by the story and setting of The Order. Now that I have played the new demo, I am paying even more attention. If Ready at Dawn Studios can deliver with the final product, this game could be a huge hit.

1. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

[youtube url=”http://youtu.be/Ow2cL-pp6p8″]

OK, so the game did not have an actual official playable demo at PSX. However, Sony did show 15 minutes of gameplay. I am more excited than ever for what could be the final installment of the Uncharted franchise. Nate Drake is back, and the gameplay video reveals that he has an older brother. I cannot wait until I finally play Unharted on the PS4.
