The return to the world of survival horror is right around the corner with one of the revolutionary franchises of the genre. Resident Evil Revelations 2 gloriously returns to form with the franchise. Capcom has released the actual in-game cinematic prologue for Revelations online early, on Facebook. The new video properly sets the stage for the game’s premise and characters. In addition, it contains some juicy details that hint at events that take place later. Resident Evil Revelations 2 is set in between the events of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. Another nice touch consists of some fun hints about what happens later in Resident Evil 6.

So far, I really like the setup for Revelations 2. The prologue nicely sets up the return of Claire Redfield, who is finally back as a playable character, and her new partner, Moira Burton. The prologue opens with a promotional video for TerraSave, Claire and Moira’s company. TerraSave is a philanthrophic clean-up organization for Bio Organic Weapons (BOW). Claire is enjoying an idyllic company retreat and cocktail mixer when Moira arrives. The dialogue reveals that this is Moira’s first day. Claire’s boss asks her about what is happening in Washington, DC, and Claire reveals she has not heard anything. New dialogue also reveals that Moira is in an estranged relationship with her father, classic Resident Evil character Barry Burton. It makes sense for Moira to have tension with her father, especially considering his career and how he was coerced in the past by Albert Wesker and Umbrella. Moira is angry at her father and checks a text from her phone. It appears that Barry has put up a bit of a shield of isolation from his loved ones.

Things go to hell very quickly when masked, armed military agents invade the party with assault weapons. Claire Redfield is identified by name, and she is knocked out as the video fades to black. So , the video essentially sets the scene for what likely took place right before the events of the gameplay demo from PlayStation Experience. It is great to see Claire Redfield back again in a Resident Evil story. Redfield has been greatly missed. Seeing her become an adult, as well a character who is not blatantly played up for sex appeal, is great. Moira Burton seems OK and not too annoying…so far.

The first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 is due out February 17, 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS Vita and Windows PC.
