According to C.Net, Samsung and Sony PlayStation are teaming up to bring the PlayStation Now streaming service to Samsung smart television sets. Digital and online gaming are certainly the wave of the future.  Sony is wise to offer a service such as this for smart TVs. Essentially, users will be able to play PlayStation video games on a Samsung smart TV without a Sony PlayStation console. It is all done through the PlayStation Now App that will be available for the Samsung Smart TVs.

Ideas like this are interesting and definitely worth trying. However, it is important for the service to ]user friendly. I have not tried PlayStation Now, but I am concerned about the parity of the streamed games as compared to standard games. The service will offer over 200 PS3 games. So apparently, there will be a nice variety to choose from at launch. The concept of being able to play the games without a console is quite ingenious.

However, I am concerned that PlayStation Network is routinely suffering outages and attacks from hackers. Is Sony’s network really secure? It would present a huge problem if the PlayStation Now service constantly crashes. How well will it actually work to stream video games through the internet? Honestly, I do not see much appeal in the service. The concept is innovative, but I probably will not spend much time streaming PS3 games. Perhaps players will save some money in the long run. The PlaystationNow concept resembles the way that PlayStation Share offers players the opportunity to join in on sessions for other games, but some publishers are blocking the feature. Accessibility for the PlaystationNow service will be very important.

The other major issue is the lack of an actual subscription service set up for the PlayStation Now app. Sony needs to set up the terms of a subscription plan for the service, be it monthly or annually. I would like to see some sort of bundle. Players who subscribe to PlayStation Plus I should get access to PlayStation Now. Why should those players be required to pay additional money per month for another service? At the very least, there should be some sort of discounted bundle for the PlayStation Now subscription for PlayStation Plus Users.

PlayStation Now is currently in its beta stages. It is expected to go live in 2015. The game will be available for Samsung smart TVs in the first half of 2015.
