Bungie.net recently updated the website with its first weekly update for Destiny for the new year of 2015. The latest update gives an idea for upcoming gameplay patches for the game that will be coming shortly. So, I would like to provide a breakdown of the update and some of my thoughts on what Bungie has in store for the future of the game.

According to Bungie, there will be a new hard mode for the Crota’s End Raid. A new hard mode will provide players with an opportunity to get more loot drops and Raid gear for the game. In some ways, the Crota’s End Raid is much easier than the Vault of Glass Raid. There have been numerous videos online showing players who are able to beat the Vault of Glass Raid solo. Per the update, the hard mode is in its final stages and is nearing completion. It will be interesting to see how much more difficult Crota’s End will be on Hard Mode. The Hard Mode for Vault of Glass presented some new challenges and problems. Hopefully, the Hard Mode for Crota’s End will do the same and eliminate any possibilities of players completing the Raid solo.

The update also depicts new information on a gameplay patch that is set to launch on January 13. The patch contains changes to the Crota’s End raid. The treasure chest reward has apparently been moved for when players eliminate Ir Yut, the Deathsinger. In addition, the Pit treasure chest will now only contain Radiant Materials. This is very confusing. It is not clear whether or not the location of the treasure chest in the pit is changing. I assume it means that players will no longer be able to obtain Exotic weapons, armor and class pieces from the chest in the Pit. Considering that I previously received a Class C fusion rifle from the chest, I am not happy about the change. However, I could be misinterpreting the update due to poor wording by Bungie.

It also appears that Bungie plans to take out the exploit in the Pit where players are able to launch over to a more advantageous area of the map from the exploding lanterns. I do not agree with patching exploits. I see no reason why players should not be able to find or use shortcuts or strategies to beat certain areas.

It seems that Bungie has fixed an exploit where a player would cut his or her connection or quit the game in the Raid for the Crota boss fight. A glitch would ensue that causes Crota to stay in a prone, kneeling position. This makes Crota a much easier target. This type of “Crota cheese” is an understandable fix. There was a glitch in the gameplay caused by a player cutting the connection. While I would be lying to say I never took advantage of this glitch, I am fine with Bungie making the change. From Bungie’s perspective, I understand why it is not in the spirit of the game.

Another new change: weapon drops for exotic weapons in the Vault of Glass will now be level 32. This is a change that should have happened a long time ago after the release of The Dark Below DLC. That aside, I am glad that the change is happening now.

In addition, the update announced that Iron Banner is coming back with “updated” rewards starting next week. I like Iron Banner and I am happy to see it return. However, I hope the updated rewards mean that Iron Banner and Lord Saladin could supply players with armor that have light level of 36.

Destiny’s latest update launches next week. The game is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PS3.
