I do not know how, but I completely missed the latest trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (available below). The “Elder Blood” trailer came out early last month. The new trailer looks utterly fantastic. The wait for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt grew longer again, but I have the utmost confidence that CD Projekt Red will be able to deliver a transcendent video game experience unlike anything seen or played before.
The latest trailer showcases many more narrative and cut scenes for the game. The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings looked good, and the graphics and visuals for the new game look like a completely higher level. It appears that CD Projekt Red has really seized the advantages of next-gen tech. The design and character model for the King of the Wild Hunt is shown off especially well in the new trailer. The video showcases the evil deeds of the dark, phantom-like riders known as the Wild Hunt. A surviving villager bears witness to their actions, and he shares a dark ominous tale with the game’s protagonist. Geralt of Rivia.
One of the better aspects of The Witcher games is the depth provided to the female characters. The women are strongly written, multi-faceted characters. They are not helpless, powerless damsels. Characters like Triss Merigold and Yennefer of Vengerberg are powerful sorceresses and can hold their own in a fight. In the trailer, Geralt of Rivia’s adopted daughter, Ciri, seems like a chip off the old block. She is clearly is a strong fighter. The Elder Blood trailer does a great job of showcasing the game’s strong female characters. Considering that Ciri will be a second playable character for the game, that is good to see.
The new trailer also does a good job of revealing and advancing the story. Geralt’s voice-over reveals that the Wild Hunt are after Ciri because she carries “Elder Blood.” Ciri comes from a line of noble Elven heritage. I am curious to learn why Ciri and her Elder Blood is a threat to the Wild Hunt. I can see why her noble bloodline would be a threat to the Emperor of Nilfgaard. However, there is something very mysterious about the Wild Hunt. The voice of the King of the Wild Hunt in the trailer sounds like pure, unfettered evil. I cannot wait to play as Geralt to take him out.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt finally hits the shelves on May 19 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
