For the last six months, I have wanted to see the matchmaking feature integrated into Destiny.  Most of the playable Strikes are organized through matchmaking, unless a pre-organized Fireteam selects to play one. For the difficult missions, such as the Weekly Heroic Strikes, Nightfall Strikes and the Raids, matchmaking would be effective. The latest Destiny game patch, Update 1.1.1, Bungie finally incorporates matchmaking into the Weekly Heroic Strikes. From my own personal gameplay experience, the results work fine. Matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes has proven to be quite satisfactory.

Unlike the forums, matchmaking provides a quick, consistent and easy way to organize a group. It is difficult to organize a Fireteam or Raid group by browsing around the tower. Most of those players are either already in their own Fireteam group and gearing up for a Raid, or not interested in forming a Raid party. It would be a long painstaking process to form a Raid party or a Fireteam for a Weekly Heroic Strike. I had resorted to using third-party websites, like DestinyLFG.net, to find Raid groups and Fireteams for the harder missions. In terms of Destiny, it seemed to be a shoddy and counter-intuitive way to organize cooperative gameplay.

I have consistently played the Weekly Heroic Strike missions with the new matchmaking on the most difficult setting, without issue. The matchmaking does set me up with random players, but the players tend to be level 30 or higher. These are players that have played these missions before and know what they are doing. Just about every Guardian has previously experienced the missions for Weekly Heroic Strikes dozens of times in Destiny. Players know the patterns and strategies for these missions. In short, matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes is a no-brainer.

These results prove that Bungie previously espoused faulty reasons for why the game did not have matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes. With DestinyLFG.net, I essentially use manual matchmaking with random players. A player does not necessarily need to be familiar with all the players of a Raid group or Fireteam in order to beat the missions. With the matchmaking feature in place for Weekly Heroic Strikes, players can easily acquire more Strange Coins for bartering with Xur. The process has become easier and more streamlined.

Do I understand the complaints against the matchmaking for Weekly Heroic Strikes? I most certainly do. I do not think the matchmaking should be mandatory. Players should have the option to turn matchmaking on or off. It should be optional like optional Fireteam chat feature. However, I am happy with the new development, and I have not had any serious problems with the new matchmaking. I would still like to see matchmaking integrated in Nightfall strikes too.
