Episode two of Resident Evil Revelations 2 essentially let the cat out of the bag regarding the identity of the mystery villain. One of the more interesting elements to the game is that the mystery villain is a cunning female character. The producers suggested that fans would have to be true, hardcore fans to know who she is. The hints indicated that the villain for Resident Evil Revelations 2 was, in fact, a very obscure character plucked deep from the annals of Resident Evil lore. It was difficult to figure out who had a personal vendetta deep enough to single out Claire Redfield to have her kidnapped for the TerraSave party. At the end of Revelations 2, the identity of the mystery villain, or “The Overseer” as she called herself, came to light, and it makes perfect sense. The villain is Alex Wesker, the sister of longtime Resident Evil franchise baddie Albert Wesker.
Alex Wesker was certainly an interesting choice. Previously, she had never made a formal appearance throughout the history of the Resident Evil franchise. Her only mention to date was in a file for Resident Evil 5. To provide some backstory, Alex Wesker, along with Albert Wesker, was a product of Project W started by Oswell E. Spencer, the former head of the nefarious Umbrella Corp. A number of children were kidnapped and put into a eugenics program with the goal of breeding superior humans. They were injected with the progenitor virus, which made them more powerful and intelligent than the average human. However, in the end, Project W only had two surviving members. One was Albert Wesker, and the other was his fellow Project W candidate, Alex Wesker. This means that at the time of Resident Evil Revelations 2, Alex Wesker is the last surviving member of Project W. Albert Wesker’s son does not really count.
Alex Wesker is an interesting and unconventional choice for the villain because she was a fairly obscure character. There has not been a strong female villain for the franchise for quite some time, so she brings that flavor to the table. Being a sister of sorts to Albert Wesker gives her a valid personal vendetta against Claire Redfield and her friends. Alex has the prototype virus, which also makes her even more dangerous. The ultimate confrontation with Alex Wesker should be quite fun and satisfying.
Episode three of Resident Evil Revelations 2 hits on March 11. Episode four drops on March 18. The full retail disc version of the game will be released on March 18 in North America and March 20 worldwide.
