The Witcher 3: New Video Showcases Gameplay Depth

2 min

CD Projekt Red has released a new gameplay video for the highly anticipated sequel, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, during PAX East 2015. The latest video, narrated by Senior Level designer Peter Gelencser, showcases the side quest in the game for Geralt of Rivia. The new gameplay video does a fantastic job of demonstrating the gameplay depth for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which looks to be one of the most satisfying, massive and immersive RPG experiences in video gaming history.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will feature a massive, open-world sandbox to explore. Thankfully, Geralt of Rivia will have a mount for faster access of travel. The video shows how Geralt can call upon his horse mount throughout the game for faster travel. This feature looks like it will come in handy a great deal for the game’s side quests.

In the side quest depicted in the footage, Geralt goes on a mission to investigate a lost caravan after he dispatches some vicious, monstrous wolf creatures. Using his Witcher Sense, Geralt tracks down what happened to the caravan party. Witcher Sense is like the Detective Mode from the Batman: Arkham games. The game is expanding Geralt’s abilities and techniques he uses to accomplish his goals. Geralt is able to track down two survivors of the caravan attack, and he discovers he is tracking a malevolent Royal Wyvern creature. The transition of the level designs is immaculate and spectacular. Geralt goes from an amazing, highly detailed forest to a dank, dark and ominous cave. In open combat, Geralt confronts the Royal Wyvern, which looks amazing. All the creature designs for the game are fantastic. No two creatures in the game look alike. A great deal of work was clearly spent on designing all the unique creatures for the game. Even the non-playable character models in the game look unique.

Gelencser does reveal one very salient and interesting hint for the game’s story in the video. He mentions that Geralt is searching for the child of prophesy who can either save the world or destroy it. Obviously, the child of prophesy must be Geralt’s adopted daughter of Ciri. I imagine that Geralt will try to save her, but maybe the game will give players the option of deciding Ciri’s fate.

This footage amounted to only one monster hunt side quest in the game. The Witcher 3 definitely looks like it will live up to its promise of offering one of the most immersive role-playing video game experiences of all time. It undoubtedly looks like CD Projekt Red will make the delays for the game worth the extra long wait for players. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will finally be released on May 19. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
