Uncharted 4: Delay Is Not Surprising

1 min

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been delayed. Naughty Dog and Sony PlayStation recently confirmed the news that the highly anticipated sequel will no longer see a likely holiday 2015 release. Instead the game will be released around the spring of 2016. The news is not surprising. Many major game releases have seen some hefty delays as of late. Mad Max was delayed; The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was delayed several times; and The Order: 1886 was delayed numerous times.

The first big sign a game delay was in store for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End took place when Naughty Dog recently started to hire more staff for the game’s multiplayer mode (via PushSquare.com). It seemed unrealistic for a game the size and magnitude of Uncharted 4 to be finished before the end of the year if Naughty Dog was just hiring new staff to work on the multiplayer mode. My concern: if work on the multiplayer mode only recently began, will it be a rough, unpolished multiplayer experience? The multiplayer and co-op modes constituted a major attraction with the last two Uncharted video games.

Hopefully, the team at Naughty Dog uses the delay to make the game as perfect as possible. This could be the final installment in the Uncharted franchise. If Naughty Dog fumbles with such a momentous release with the franchise’s debut on the next-gen consoles, it would be a huge blight on the company’s record. In fact, the company would have a hard time recovering.

Since Naughty Dog has taken the steps to delay the game, I do not want to see a broken or disappointing game at launch. The game better be all that it is cracked up to be. In short, I do not want to see a rushed campaign,  game-breaking glitches, and numerous bugs. Uncharted 4 should not contain any single type of a hefty, super-sized day one patch at launch. Naughty Dog needed extra time, and got it. This is not a simple delay of a few months. It is an additional several months. That means Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End should offer the most smooth and polished play experience possible. The game should be a feast for the eyes with unbelievable gameplay. I hope Naughty Dog is up to the task.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is now slated for a spring 2016 release. The game will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
