Unfortunately, the wait for the upcoming action-adventure, platform video game, Mighty No. 9, will be longer than originally anticipated. This week, Mighty No. 9 developer Comcept announced that the game will not meet its expected April 2015 release date. Instead, the game has been pushed back to December. The delay is highly disappointing. The game looks like the heir apparent to the Mega Man franchise. It came from the mind of Mega Man co-creator, Keiji Inafune. It was completely funded through Kickstarter. Another delay for the game causes serious concerns. However, there is a silver lining to this disappointing news. Comcept also revealed that the company is partnering with publisher Deep Silver to release the game. Despite the delay, there are some positive things that fans can take from the recent news.
The biggest piece of news from the recent announcement is that Deep Silver will release a physical retail copy of the game. Originally, the game was only going to be available as a multi-platform digital release. Instead, the game will have its own physical disc version. This is good news, especially for game collectors and Inafune fans.
The other good news is that the retail disc version of the game will include Ray Abandoned Lab Stage DLC. This is an extra battle stage and boss, on top of the core game. It also features Ray as a playable character. All the fans who backed the game will get access to this DLC no matter what.
More importantly, the delay means that Mighty No. 9 has more time to test and polish the game. Deep Silver will help Comcept clean up the game and help with quality assurance testing for the game. By the same token, there should be no excuses for a buggy, flawed, glitched out and broken game at launch. Since Comcept is making fans wait longer, the company has no reason to releasing a bad, underwhelming game. It should be a supremely awesome, polished gameplay experience.
I am highly disappointed that springtime rolled around and Mighty No. 9 did not materialize. On that note, I will be highly skeptical about the delay and September launch. However, despite the delay, the game could very well be worth the wait. I really hope this is a high quality, nostalgic experience that it appears to be. Mighty No. 9 is due out on September 15 in the US and September 18 in the Europe and other international territories. The digital download only version will cost $19.99. The retail disc version will go for $29.99.
