It appears the cat got let out of the bag earlier than expected for Disney Infinity 3.0. Disney Infinity 2.0 brought the Marvel Universe into the fold for the highly entertaining, toys-to-life game from Disney Interactive. Now it appears that Disney will put its recent acquisition of Lucasfilm and the Star Wars license to good use. A retail listing (via IGN) apparently jumped the gun and showcased what will be the first Star Wars starter set for the video game. The set appears to include Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano as the starter figures. Box art for the set depicts characters such as C-3PO, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Darth Voda, Yoda and young Obi-Wan Kenobi. Pod racers and a Tauntaun are included. Incorporation of the Star Wars Universe into Disney Infinity is a great idea. It is easy to believe these images are legitimate; and, I believe Disney Infinity is sitting on a veritable goldmine and license to print money with Star Wars for Disney Infinity.

The toys-to-life genre of video games is a hot ticket right now, between Amiibo for Nintendo and Skylanders for Activision. Star Wars has a rabid and loyal fanbase for all things Star Wars. That will make the Disney Infinity Star Wars figurines hot items for both kids, families and longtime collectors. Bringing Star Wars into the fold for Disney Infinity is a no brainer. More than likely, sales will be astronomical.

Disney Infinity is a great game because the possibilities are basically infinite. Players can come up with almost anything they can imagine: creating their own playsets, setting up their own mini-games and much more. Once the Star Wars Universe is brought into the fold, things have the potential to become even more interesting. Star Wars is not only famous for its amazing, unique set of characters, but also for the unique worlds and environments. I hope there are playsets for the game set on the wintry ice planet of Hoth, the desert planet of Tattooine and even the completely urbanized planetoid that is Coruscant.

It appears that Disney asked for the pictures to be taken down, which I believe lends credence to the legitimacy of the images. Obviously, a retailer jumped the gun, and Disney was not yet ready to make any announcements for Disney Infinity 3.0. I fully expect more announcements on Disney Infinity 3.0 incorporating the Star Wars Universe later on. Now, if only Disney would provide players Gravity Falls figures for the game next.
